STI convert with 06 MR.
Hey all, I just picked up an 06 MR with 26k miles. I traded in my beloved 05 STI with almost 90k miles. I will be reading up on the EVO since it's a whole different experience compared to the STI. The car has a full catless exhaust, upgrade fuel pump, AEM intake and a BOV. The BOV is the only thing that really scares me since that is kind of a no no on lightly moded STIs. If anyone has any advice for a convert please feel free to let me know.
My list of to do's.
1. Figure out if this bisch has a tune for said mods.
2. Check oil and fluid levels.
Oh yeah, I'm paranoid about the reliability of Evos. My STI went 90k miles on a stage 2 protune with no issues. I was still even on the stock clutch so if anyone wants to tell me Evos are just as reliable feel free.

Welcome!
Reliability is a word well known to the 4g63 engine. There is a member on here with 205,000 miles on the odometer..yes 205k!
Definitely look into a tune. Perhaps install a couple more parts before. What BOV is currently on there? 99% of the people are going to say switch to an OEM Evo IX BOV (it is metal, compared to the Evo VIII's plastic BOV so it can hold more boost and does not leak as easily). Especially replace it if is a vent to atmosphere BOV because Evos do not respond well to them.
I am at 49k miles and still on the stock clutch and my friend has almost 90k on the stock clutch. However, it all depends on how it is driven and so many factors go into the clutch life/longevity.
Definitely a good idea to get all fluids and regular maintenance performed.
Best of luck!!

I'm pretty sure the BOV is a Greddy and it sounds like it vents to atmosphere between shifts. I wonder if I'm at risk of popping the engine with the BOV? I guess I need to hurry up and sell my AP and go Opensource.
Yea Greddy's are not too well liked for Evos anymore. Get more involved in the site and you will gain access to the for sale threads and there are always used IX BOV's FS.

Thanks for the offer, I think I'm going to go to my local shop and see what kind of tune is on it before I start replacing anything. If it's still available in a few days and the shop recommends replacing the Greddy I will take it off your hands.

Thanks!
I hope it lives up to the legend people make it out to be. So far I'm loving it but not hammering on it until I figure these damn mods out.

If the Evo is reliable I think I will enjoy it more than my STI. I don't DD the car so I'm hoping a 1/4 run every now and then doesn't put the hurt on it.
the sti has nice gauges. that was really it for me, but the evo is very very very responsive to mods. Drives well, very reliable and tons of aftermarket support. Go with the stock bov and don't replace unless you upgrade turbos and run higher psi 25+ i believe. Correct me If I'm wrong guys! thanks and welcome
i tell you what, both cars are unique in their own way. I love the STi exhaust rumble, and the better interior but thats it. You will see that the 4g63 can handle up to 500-600 whp on stock OEM internals, and any engine is as reliable as you make it and keep it.
btw quit freakingout about the bov, its not going to do anything to your engine, and as for your upgrades you "dont" have to have a tune if you dont want to, but the tune will def unleash a good 40-50 whp (depending on the psi), and give you better gas milage.
p.s before you get a tune get a boost controller

I don't like buying moded cars but got a good deal on this one so I made a move. It looks like the mods are pretty minor so I think I have started to calm down about them. People saying not to worry about them helps as well.
