Tried searching, but no luck. Anyone know if there is any difference in the 05 and 06 MR 6-speed transmission? Thanks.

Differences, I'm not 100% sure, but they are interchangable. So an 05 trans will work on an 06 and visa versa.

Pretty sure they didn't make any modifications or major changes to the 06 MR tranny vs. the 05 MR tranny. It was only a year difference so I'm fairly certain that Mitsu didn't have enough time to overhaul the tranny for the 9 MR. Both are fairly fragile and week trannies if I'm not mistaken, so if you have one, just be careful with it and don't launch it every chance you get. For spirited driving with a few mods and decent hp it should be fine.

the biggest difference is that one was put into the EVO 8 MR, and the other was put into the EVO 9 MR. hope that helps lol

lies. if you don't own one, and haven't had any personal experience with them, stop spreading bs.

the tranny is fine. 158k miles on mine, plenty of racing, and launching just about every chance i get, with ZERO issues. I launched it 6 times at the last autocross, and plan to launch it another 6 times at the next one. I'll probably launch it on the street a few times just to make sure I'm not rusty for the races.

Ok, thanks for the input guys. Looking at an 05 for my 06 as a backup/spare since it's local and relatively cheap.

Damn bro, well good for you. I actually DO own one and it's just what I was told. Not as strong as the 5 speed and to be careful with launching it on the regular. I'd rather tell him the truth based on what others have told me than have him tearin *** in it and break something. I know I would hate to be stuck on the side of the road with my tranny layin next to me, lol.

Relax man. I'm not spreading lies or bs, just giving him some advice based on what was passed to me. Mine is the 6 speed and it's fun as hell to drive. I give it hell everyday and am glad I bought the MR with the 6. If you're killin it with yours and have had a solid experience, good for you. Damn there are some hot heads in this forum.

You may want to search for the big 6-speed thread and see why some of the transmissions can break. FWIW, gears 1-3 are stronger on the 6-speed.

I'm just tired of these '09'ers and 2010'ers coming in spreading old BS that has been discussed to death over the years in here already. Now we have to address the same lies over and over again. if you don't know for sure, ask first before you go spreading your misinformation as fact.

A high 12 second run at 107 isnt a lot of abuse. I have heard a lot of **** said about the 6 speed and the fact is its wearker the nthe 5 speed and the 5 speed isnt the most stout tranny. The difference is the 5 speed has upgrade options the 6 speed doesn't yet.

Everytime someone says something bad about the 6 speed you get your panties in a bunch and flip out. It's not a personal insult so relax and if for some reason you feel its your personal crusade to spread the gospel of the 6 speed tranny you need a new hobby.

Thanks for the info, man. I'll be sure and dig around about it. Good to know, though. I appreciate getting good information instead of getting publicly stoned because I made a statement about something that was passed to me.

I'm not sure what you mean by an "09'er or 2010'er", but if that's me, whatever. Yes, I'm new to the evo community, but I've had my fair share of DSM's and other imports over the years. As far as I'm concerned, it's people like you that are the reason that all evo drivers are stereotyped as "dicks". I think we are done here. You've made your point. You are god almighty of evo's and i'm just a noob, so that's fine. Good luck spreading the word about the evo and sorry to **** in your corn flakes, i guess.

I'm not a drag racer. that run may not be much abuse, but i think it was pretty good on a stock car. Anyway, my transmission sees it's abuse at autocross, and on the street. My point is that it is possible to launch, drive, and race with the 6 speed. it's not made out of glass. when people come in here and talk like it is, that's what gets on my nerves.

if you had just said that when you get to making big power the 6 speed could be weaker than the 5 speed, or the 6 speed isn't quite as strong as the 5 speed, i wouldn't have had any issue with that...but when you come in here and basically say that you can't launch it, and you have to baby it? give me a break. in some markets the only available transmission is the 6 speed. in fact, the damn Fq-360 and FQ-400 as well as all the other FQ EVO's come with the 6 speed instead of the 5 speed.

so why would mitsubishi equip a car with 360-400hp with the 6speed if it's made of glass? that's all I'm saying.
