Are you talking about a port or just stronger retainers and valves and springs?

If you port the head it'll help with flow so yes even with the stock turbo you'll see gains. If you're just beefing everything up then no.

You usually don't built the head unless you add cams though, so in that case do it all... cams, port, stronger springs, retainers and valves. Then you'll see a nice gain with all that work.

unless your getting one for free,.. a built head, which i would consider the whole works,.. haveing alot of port work done, not just springs and retainers and cams. is prolly a little much for you right now.

if your still running an evo 8 turbo there are so many other options as far as making power, that you could do first. not saying a built head isnt a good idea. but lets say a BR built head is $1600, great head, alot of high HP evos run it, for that same $1600 you could find a barley used fp red or toss another hunny or two on there and get a fp black.

just sayn. search bro. evos and the 4g63s have been out long enough. there are build ups all over this forum. look at other peoples builds and go from there. i would say get an evo 9 turbo, then all the supporting mods befor worrying about building the head. now putting some cams in springs is a good idea, esp since you hace an evo 8.

if your going to do a built head i hope you just go built block next get the meat over with. there are many ways he can go about it. maybe he wants to reenforce first before messing with power mods and basic bolt ons

Very true. or just building a nasty sleeper. But id always start with the basics, befor playn with the meat. But then again, Might be do for a timing belt/head gaskets. so figured why the heads off just to it to the headshop for a couple days.

i always give myselt the "might as well" excuse.
need a new clutch? "might as well" do an alum flywheel and built tranny.

cheers

you can run kelford 272's on stock springs, you just cant rev it out, but since your on stock turbo, theres no reason to rev over like 7000
