looking into buying an evo

My dad wants me to get a new car, and I told him that the only way im selling my turbo lancer is if im buying and evo. im hoping to get at least 5k for my car maybe more, I got approved for a 7k loan, and he might be giving me 3k which equals up to 15k to spend on a car.

im looking for the following

2003-2006 Lancer Evo 8 or 9 "I prefer it stock not modded, or if there is one for a reasonable price I will take it"

In black, silver, or white, with under 70,000 miles on it.

Can anyone tell me is this a reasonable price for what im asking? Just want to get an idea before I just jump in to buying one.

You won't get a IX for that price. Even if it has been abused. You might get like an 03 VIII, but there's no telling wether it would be a clean one.

+1

also you have to consider that people beat the **** out of evo's, and there is a decent chance that if you find a 15k evo your gonna have 2 spend 5k for repairs.

You need to search VERY carefully when looking for used Evos... even if they look clean and bone stock, give it a VERY good go over... Look for any suspicion of modification that had been returned to stock.

This is coming from someone that was ignorant when searching for an Evo. I bought a IX that appeared bone stock in 2008 for roughly $24k. Didn't know about all the previous modifications and that it was on its second t-case (replacement was a junkyard part.) Plus the previous owner, at some point, broke the wastegate solenoid and just bypassed the vacuum line. Basically i was pulling peak boost the entire time i had the car. Until the motor blew up less than a month later. I got the motor replaced as well as the wastegate solenoid (like $70 btw... a $70 part caused me an expensive headache.) just a couple months later the t-case went out (previous owner beat the **** out of her .) and my car gets babied very well. So now she's on her third t-case and second engine.
i've had to drop quite a bit of cash to get her where she is now, but now she's as good as when she rolled off the factory floor plus a few extras

Don't get me wrong though. I'm not trying to turn you away from getting an Evo, I'm just giving you a warning from experience. After all this, I LOVE my car it's now the best car i've ever owned. and i've owned like 8 cars lol.
Good luck in your search! We'd love for you to join the Evo community

And don't forget, you will need $1,000,000 dollars saved for maintenance and fluids.

^^ x 1000 : If you dont have money for maintenance (EXPENSIVE maintenance) forget it, its gonna kill your budget and the rest of your life.

I bought my 2006 MR about two months ago. I didnt have much experience with theses cars,. I had an STi which was farily simple compared to the EVO... I thought it was almost bone stock when I bought it ( other than a garbage HSK ssqv and some nice aftermarket brembo rotors). Then I found alot of hints about mods on the car... lose platics, bent fins on the radiator, a red neon (!!!) on the firewall that was disconnected, acd pump empty, oil hadnt been changed for a LOOOOOONG time everywhere in the car (diff, gears, engine etc....) , car wouldnt boost over 14psi, lots of pressure leaks..... So all in all, paid the car 27k (CAN) and in just 2 months had to put 1500$ just so I could drive it and thats by doing most of the work by myself.... the stealership would have rapped me for 2500-3000$+++

I still have problems with turbo leaks, acd pump is fuc%ed and Im still trying to figure out how im gonna get all this fixed... I ordered some parts but I dont know if it will do anything good yet..

Anyways, think about it. If you dont have the money to buy a clean EVO , just forget it... the car will look good in your driveway but if you cant use it, whats the point.
