Why are Evo reviews so harsh?

I think it was Car and Driver ( correct me if it's Motor Trend or some one else) tested the IX in a long term test. Where they drive the car for a year and every couple of issues would update on any problems with the car, maintence expense, ect. After a year, I don't rember them having any problems with the car and at the end of the year with over 50K the stock clutch was even still good. 42K on my IX SE no problems yet.
this thread actually made me laugh a little. the EVO never sees bad reviews. drivers, racers, editors, and tv personalities all over the world have been praising the EVO since before most of us knew the EVO even existed. Everyone loves this car for what it is, what it does, and what it's capable of.
I can't ever remember seeing a review that wasn't 100% in it's favor until it came to america and got put in the hands of an idiot who didn't understand what it was, and couldn't drive it well enough to appreciate what he/she was sitting in. 99% of the world loves this car, and that shows in 99% of the reviews it gets.
it's by no means a perfect car. there's something in it for most to hate, but there's far more in it for everyone to love.

I believe it was Motor Trend who tested a black IX MR SE, but they only had it for around 20,000 miles. That aside, they reported no problems, though they did go through tires pretty quickly, as that specific car of theirs was also used in their best handling car competition (or whatever it was called) where it finished in the middle, just behind some cars that are actually pretty awesome (911 GT3, Cayman S, GT-R, R8, Exige).
I was thinking the same thing. Of course the writers point out the cons of the Evo, but the general opinion is a favorable one. The only review that I didn't agree with was when Motor Trend compared a IX to an STI where the STI actually put out lower performance numbers in almost every category (except quarter-mile time from what I remember, as it did a 13.0 while the Evo might have been a tick or two behind) but was still rated higher. It was partially due to the MSRP, as most publications tended to use the MR model while taking points off for its price, which made me wish that they had used a five-speed IX with practically the same performance.

exactly. the only VIII I ever would have gotten is the 05, but if someone's looking, they should just go for a IX.
If someone hasn't really driven an Evo, like daily drive it for awhile, they shouldnt have the right to judge until then. Same with any car. I have had me Evo9 for three years and its great. First owner with No problems.
