From STI to EVO X MR

This forum has been awesome in getting me up to speed on the X. There's a wealth of knowledge buried in here. I had no idea there was no 2009 model year in the US. I just about called bs on a guy trying to sell an '09 here but realized there actually are 2009s in Canuckistan. Thanks mods for the value you bring to us newbs.

Which STI did you have before and what convinced you to do the switch?

Welcom BTW.

I had an '07 STI running a stage 2-ish setup with a bunch of suspension mods. I really enjoyed the car and it was a immensely more enjoyable drive than a stock STI. The few times I made it to the track I found it very satisfying. I actually switched to an '07 V6 Audi A4 quattro with all of the options which I'm still driving. While the Audi has a fantastic interior its incredibly mundane to drive. Attempting to track an A4 would a waste of effort and very likely something expensive would break. My STI was reliable and I enjoyed the sort of neo-hot rodder weekend upgrades such as suspension, exhaust and engine management software. I guess that's the engineer in me - virtually everything I own is hacked or modified in some fashion.

Where I live we have warm summers and stupid cold winters so in a daily driver AWD is a must for me. I have a curiosity about the Evo X as an enthusiast. I really like the idea of the SST and I don't plan to build a drag strip monster so the MR really appeals. A new MR goes for mid-50s here so I figured I try to find one state side and import it like I did with the STI. Everything is temporary so I figured better get it out of my system and just buy one.

I guess the only thing that makes an STI guy switch is a better interior. That's such a horrible excuse to talk down an Evo. Not saying you're one of them.. but an MR is fullly equiped. I'm quite contempt with my 8 RS. GL finding your EvoX man.

if you want the SST, but not the higher price, you might also want to consider the EVO X SE. welcome to the board.
