New to the Evo world!
Hi Guys, i'd first like to say i've been reading on the forum for few weeks and you guys are WAY MORE HELPFUL than the honda guys. haha.
I currently own a 1999 Honda Civic EX(EJ8) with a few bolt ons, and basic wheel and suspension upgrades. Evo's have always been at the top of my "dream car list" right under Nissan Skyline, lol.
I have a few starter questions. i have my eyes set on a 2005 Evolution VIII MR with less than 57K on it, the dealership is asking $21,995, i checked KBB value (24,000) which i thought was a tad high, and NADA as around 21,500 which is about what they're selling for. Is there anything major i should look for? Anything that is known to be replaced frequently or something that needs to be changed at any mileage. The only thing with buying used hondas is the timing belt/water pump around 90-100K miles.
Second, i am brand new to turbos and turbo tuning/performance. i understand the basics and how it works mechanically. but i welcome any and all turbo knowledge from the old and wise, to the new and experimental.
I appreciate help in advance and i welcome any criticism!

Ask the dealer if they have any maintenance history of the car with timing belt, water pump, all fluid changes. Make sure the tires have good 32nd and makes are good. make sure you drive the car and everything feels right. Clutches go very quick on evo’s so make sure it feels good and the pedal release is not too high.
As per the turbo question, you have to be more specific.

i got my evo from the dealership and i wish i could do it over...the previous owner had an upgraded turbo on it and went back to stock. The fuel maps were all ****ed up, there has been a stalling issue that hasn't been fixed.
It's a lot better to get a car like this privately because you don't 'really' know if it is stock or not. at least you can somewhat track what the car has had done to it if you get it from a member here.

as per your turbo reference, i guess just the age old question. what would i need before upgrading the turbo system?
i know that the injectors and fuel rail are a no brainer, the turbo itself, downpipe, bypass/blow off valve, a good quality inch FMIC, AF monitor, and a ECU unit like AEM and such. i was more interested in the things people might overlook i guess? IE gaskets or seals, any sort of mouting kit. i did so looking around and noticed most of the better name turbos are based on the 9 model and need an adapter kit for the 8.
and for the record, i know its probably to most talked about, the FP red is the upgrade i was eyeballing.
