another evo..
after a year of being evo-less i have really been itching to get another one. I had two evos before and i can't think of a better car for the price. Anyways i found a really clean one but it seems a little fishy. The write up says that it has a five speed and its an MR. It has new calipers and a new intake manifold. I have been pretty lucky with my other evos reliabilty wise, but am afraid that this very clean ix mr has been rapped.
Do you guys think that i am overreacting or is there a logical explanation why a car would need these things replaced at 50000 miles?
Intake is aftermarket open element- so just an upgrade not really a 'replacement'
Old owner may have ridden the pads/rotors and ruined them
Replacement calipers could have been cosmetic- some of them the clearcoat peels.
Transmission is fishy- I wouldn't buy an evo off ebay personally, or without seeing it in person and having it checked out by someone you trust... but to each his own

I'd wait and find something closer if you can't get someone to look at it or fly/drive ot go look. Buying these cars abused you are basically better off buying a rolling chasis and starting from the ground up....
Definitely try to buy locally (or semi-close). I think at this point it's best to buy privately and run a car fax. I say this because you can get a lot of information from the owner regarding it's use and modification, especially if it's the original owner.
Dealer cars can be very fishy...especially when randoms are test driving them and sales people are abusing them (first hand experience with that last bit).

i wish it was closer so i could easily take a look at it, its exactly what i am looking for. If anyone knows of any other evos for sale that look similar and have light mods let me know.
^ there is a reason he's posting it on ebay
- obviously there are other mods (intake for example) that aren't listed which most likely means its a car that was returned to stock - its exactly what nightmares are made of...worst case scenario is it needs new case/diffs, motor etc etc

Im going through the same thing. One of my frat bros is trying to get rid of his 2006 EB Evo IX MR. Ive been in the car plenty of times, it drives great but thats besides the point. He claims its an MR but its a 5-speed. I asked if he did a transmission swap and he claims he didnt. The car is Salvaged Titled, has abt 30k on the odometer, has the sound and leather package, sunroof, turbo back exhaust, intake upper and lower intercooler pipping, Vat delete, Ported waste gate, hallman boost controller AEM wideband and boost gauge. HKS turbo timer. He would settle for 16k. hmmmmmmmmm so what to do what to do???
honestly i dont see anything wrong with the car, yes the guy cant type english if his life depended on it, BUT i say if you are interested give him a call and ask some questions...the car looks clean and mildly modified so nothing crazy. As for the 5spd there is plenty of MR owners that swap to 5 spd because its more durable than the 6 spd...if you are that interested run a carfax on the car and see what you get from it. Ebay cars are not bad you just need to ask the right question when buying it, my car was bought on ebay and have had zero issues since i have had it and was nothing wrong with it, BUT did talk to the seller and checked the car out before i bought it...
