New Owner, New Problems

Hey guys a couple weeks ago I decided that this would be a good time to buy an Evo and so I went for it. 2005 Evo with 53,400 miles and only a few dents. Bought some tint, Viper Alarm, and some new tires. I started to notice in first gear it would whined when I started to get going. Then it rained like crazy here and I had no choice but to drive through half the pacific it seemed like and my service engine light jumped on. I ran it straight to Auto Zone and had them look at the code. Miss Fire, I went home and checked the spark plugs, dried off the car, disconnected the Battery, and let it sit for a day. Has a little over 100 miles on it now and no service engine light but my gas mileage dropped horribly. I had 120 miles at half tank and now I am in between half and quarter and I am at 100 miles. Something just doesn't feel right about the car now. Any help would be much appreciated. Here are some pics right when I bought it.

I bought from a dealer and he had no idea what has been done with it. What I do know is it sounds like it has some cam work done, Blow off Valve, Exhaust, Manual Boost Controller, and pushing a high 26 pounds of boost.

whatever you do DO NOT TAKE HER TO THE DEALER FOR ANY SERVICE!!!!!!!
Find a reputable EVO TUNER and let them diagnose your new baby.

Yeah sorry to hear your having issues, if your talking about that freakish rain storm that included a little hail sorry to hear you were caught in that, sucks. I'm no mechanic but I get 1st gear whine in my evo 9 but it's hard determine if your issue is normal without hearing it. I see you checked the plugs but did you try and turn the engine over to see if any water pushed out of the plug holes. Water does not compress and can cause some serious damage if enough of it gets into the engine, my best guess would be you didn't get a lot of water as the engine would have seized and stop running but you got enough to cause some internal engine damage. In any case, I wouldn't even drive it anymore and and have it towed to a shop you trust and have them take a look, best of luck.

Welcome,

I am a new evo owner as well with some similar issues, although I only have a megan tbe. I bought mine about a month ago and since then have had the 0300 random misfire code once a week. Yesterday at an autoX I had the chance to speak with another 03 owner about the situation. From talking to him the code is no big deal and wont harm the motor (someone correct my if he's wrong). Drove it around a little yesterday and the cel turned itself off. You would just need to get a pocket code reader and clear the codes yourself.

My first gear whines a little but it's nothing to worry about if it is only first gear. If it starts doing it during highway cruising then you need to worry.

Like said above the gas milage is dependent on the driver. When I drive like an 80 year old granny I get 25-27 mpg, but what fun is that. Now I have been averaging 22-23 because there are a few fun onramps on my daily commute.

It's going to take some time to get used to the car and all it's quirks. Trust me, the first week I had the car I would not take it into boost for worrying about screwing something up lol.
