i'm considering a cf hood and really don't know if its worth the money i.e. what kind of weight loss will i actually see? are there any other benefits? i'd like to see some opinions posted, let me know what you guys think..
most are heavier than stock. the ones that are lighter really cost some $$

Hummm thats a question you have to ponder additional things.
1. You are buying for looks or shall i say the bling factor and you have a garage and your stock hood has alot of rock chips in it. Then if you can say yes to these by no means go ahead and buy one. But be for warned a good carbon-fiber hood costs some money. So dont skimp buy quality and buy whatever else you want to do in carbon-fiber from the same company at the same time so the weave pattern will all match up too.

Alll and as to the weight loss, it will be a weight gain. Any good qualitycarbon-fiber hood is going to weigh alittle more as in no more than 3lbs. But this is a moot point to consider.

This is straight from Buschur's website:
"A carbon fiber hood is HEAVIER than your stock hood. Our stock hood weighed 20.2 lbs. and the carbon fiber hood that we purchased but never installed was 21.6 lbs."
I've never been a huge fan of carbon fiber, but to each his/her own.
Remember it's your car, so do what makes you happy.

Everyones bashing over like 2 lbs thats so funny. I have always liked the look of a CF hood and im in the same boat.
As far as i can tell by reading is that alot of CF hoods crack right by the vents. I think it has to do with that areas rapid heating and cooling. If/ when i get a CF hood im going to put some gold foil around the problem areas and hopefully that will prevent cracking.
CF hoods are nice because you will never get thouse stupid little rock dents in your hood.

it also depends on what style CF hood you get. an OEM style CF hood will weigh about the same, or less than the OEM stock hood WITH all the insulation. I weighed my stock hood without insulation at around 19lbs, and the OEM Seibon hood I had was around the same. It's not really worth it though, unless you just need a new hood. carbon fiber is a pain to take care of, and it will eventually fade no matter how well you treat it.
Like everyone has said it is mostly for looks. Me personally have one on my AS EVO 8. It does looks nice, more aggressive on OMHO specially if you have a lip or anything along those lines. As far as weight goes if it really matters that much to you get on a treadmill and there you go it will compensate for what you will gain from the hood lol. Good luck bro.
