technical questions before buying.

Hey everyone!

while i am a "kinda" old guy, I'm really trying to not sound like some over excited 17yr old with over ambitious plans here. Thats not what i'm about and i could really use some input here!

my last project car was totaled out via a deer accident over the weekend, so now i'm in the market for a new "toy" an Evo IX in SE trim seems to fit what i'm after. but i have a few questions before hand.

with a built motor/trans in my last car i was north of 650whp/500lbwtq, and i'm looking to make a solid 500-550whp out of this car. i'm not afraid of spending money to make the power i want, but i dont know enough about this motor/driveline to know where i need to invest the most.

I've got a custom built 62mm billet turbo (from the guys at SpeedTrapConsulting) an AEM V2 box(ive been doing my own tuning for many years) and an exedy twin disk ready to rock, but that still leaves many unanswered questions.

what are the weekpoints of the rotating assembly? i've been told that the IX's ran a fully forged set up so i dont see an issue making that power level (please correct me if i'm wrong) how will the driveline handle this? i've been told there is a possible t-case issue. is the 5spd trans going to be OK? the diff's?

also, is the STOCK cylinder head flow data posted any ware? I'm curious if i'll need a ported head. what are the stock IX cams able to make power wise efficiently? also, is there data on the stock IC around? whats it able to do flow wise and whats its pressure drop at 20-25psi?

thanks in advance for any help, i look forward to picking up the car and contributing to this massive community.

If I were you with that turbo in hand, I would get a built 2.0 or 2.1 block....maybe a 2.3 if you're concerned about spool. Many vendors here (MAPerformance, Buschur, AMS, the list goes on and on ), have those options for blocks and will also have the suitable head package to go with it.

As far as the trans goes, contact Spep, TRE, etc. They can help you building that 5spd and TCase to par .

As far as cams go...ya definitely want to upgrade to something more aggressive....Kelford, FP, GSC, all make great cams.

As far as the intercooler goes...my preference and many others is a 4" IC utilizing a garrett core. That IC will handle almost anything you can throw at it until you hit some major (700+) hp.

Edit: A nice long rod 2.4 would be super cool too. Best of both worlds, that one.
