Trading my supercharged Elise for an Evo?
Trading my supercharged Elise for an Evo?
Hey all,
I bought a perfect, one owner 2005 Elise 6 months ago. The previous owner has spent around $15,000 on nice mods such as built in Valentine One, Katana supercharger, lightweight stereo system, etc. It also has all the options (Sport, Touring, Hardtop) and has been professionally tuned/maintained.
Anyways, I absolutely love the car - it's extremely fast and really turns heads - but it's becoming clear that it's a bit unsuitable for daily driver use. In fact, during a recent rainstorm, I had to pull off the freeway and wait for the roads to dry a bit before going home as the car was completely unstable.
So I'm looking for something that's a bit more reasonable but still feels extremely sharp and connected. I've always loved the Evo IX and was curious if you all thought it could be possible that someone would be interested in swapping cars (plus cash on their end). How much cash would be reasonable (I'm mostly looking for a stock to mildly modded IX SE), or would I be better off selling the Lotus privately and then buying an Evo? The only issue there is I'd immediately need a new car and would hate to have to try to time the two transactions perfectly.
Thanks in advance for the feedback!

If I were you I would try to sell your car at the same time your buying an Evo. Dealers call it a courtesy trade, your buyer and you go to the dealer at the same time, he buy's your car, you buy the one on the lot, they do all the paper work.
The Evo is probably the best all around car there is as far as performance, and driveability in adverse conditions. You will not have to pull over in the rain, promise.

The guy I bought my car from bought an Exige the day he sold me the Evo and never looked back. If your single with no kids, keep the Lotus. Especially since you live in San Diego. You don't have snow to contend with. Hell, even if you have a wife or girlfriend. I'd still keep the lotus.

OP, I hope you find an evo owner to trade. What a great deal for both owners.
I would think that with the right tires and alignment your little car would handle rain too. Maybe not?

Absolutely, I could downgrade the tires. However this car really lives and dies by the rubber, so putting on a lesser tire just seems wrong to me.
yeah it would be sacrilege to put allseasons on the elise/exige but then again these cars were never meant for DDing. im simply stating if you want to keep your ride as DD, then save your R-compound advans for great weather/track day and get minimum summer tires that also do decent in rain

....PM me if you are interested.
