Going to loook at my first evo?
Going to loook at my first evo?
Hey how's it going, right now I currently drive an 07 sti and I was looking to switch it up and come over to the dark side. Now I was wondering what specific things to look for when I look at this friday. Im not sure if its the same as subarus but would a compression test and leak down test be a must? Car is an 08 gsr if that matters...let me here from you guys, thanks Greg
Im going to post 2 pictures up to see what you guys think is going on. The only thing that i have noticed was the intercooler piping was changed, and an aem boost guage?

Let me know what you guys think has been done, thanks

Yes, piping has been changed, but it would be better for an up close shot of engine bay as well. As far as the compression test and boost leak test, I feel they are a must. I would suggest a leak down test as well. Any testing you can have done before buying, do it. Better safe than sorry.
I see you live in westchester......If your able to i would take it to a reputable performance shop, ideally one that specializes in evos and have them do a thorough inspection. Thats what i did when i bought my ix. Took it to iveytune down in NJ.
I did notice the intake and bov has been changed as well, why does it look like the intake box is open on the top? Now is that a modification that would cause someone to stay away from? Yes i live in westchester and the car is in the city so as far as bringing it somewhere i don't have any places in mind. But i will see how far iverytune is form the location of the car. I appreciate everyones helps, and we will see on friday how it goes...I WOULD LOVE TO GET INTO AN EVO AND GET RID OF MY STI

Yes AEM Tru-Boost is an electronic boost controller. And yes his intake box is open. There should be an AEM cover, maybe he removed it for more flow idk. I'd check the regional forum and see if the owner is on here. Good luck.
Will do, now having the air box open like that, is that bad for the engine/ air to fule ratio? Sorry if im asking to manye questions im just used to the subaru world where if anything is changed is a problem
It may affect the AFR's but only true way to tell is either logging a pull or having a wideband installed. And don't be afraid to ask questions, there are a lot of people with a wealth of knowledge here that are happy to help.
Leak test is good if the hassle is no problem
and as far as i can think kinda the same as looking for a subaru , check the engine , tranny , transfer case noise ect.
that gsr looks clean

thats the only thing i have to see if its a hassle to get it looked at by a tuner. As far as checking out the car your correct it must be similar to looking at subarus also which i have a good eye and ear for that due to owning 2 subarus. Now i heard about the t/c death wine, now is that common with the 08+ or with any evolution? What would i look for/hear for ? Last but not lease what is the general price for a leak down/compression test?
