Should I be concerned?! New Evo X owner!

I just got my financing approved for a 2008 GSR. I'm about to close on the loan tomorrow when I uncovered a flood of clutch and center differential complaints here on the forum.

I used to have a 2005 STi. It had 50k miles when I bought it and I drove it to 123k miles. I spent two years autocrossing it and never had a problem with the differential or the clutch (still stock OEM, in fact). Just regular maintenance.

Are these problems that affect some significant part of the Evo owning population?

you shouldn't be worried. 99% of the clutch issues are driver issues. as for the ACD issues, not familar with that. if you're worried, get an EVO IX MR. i drove it, and autocrossed it till 176,000 miles, and sold it. the new guy is still loving it.

but...no you shouldn't have anything to worry about. EVO's are good cars. I know guys who own 2008's, and autocross/road race regularly and they have no issues.

Its all gonna depend on how you drive it man. I'm 330whp (dyno mustang) right now on the stock clutch with no issues at 45k miles. Been to a few autox events and several canyon runs in socal but no tracking yet. I can't compare it to a ix though this is my first real perfomance car.

Just like any car, the clutch is only as good as the driver. Based on your award I'm guessing you can drive so there isn't much to be afraid of, just don't expect it to withstand multiple drag launches.

I also recommend you removed the clutch restrictor pill inside the slave cylinder ASAP.

Wow guys! Maybe it's silly, but a few reassuring words really helped. I honestly feel better now. I actually hadn't planned on doing ANYTHING to it for a year or so (modification wise). I might add some mud flaps to keep the paint in good shape.

I plan to drive it like my Subie. I've never beat on my cars and they've always treated me well. I drove that car every day everywhere. I was one of the only guys who drove my car to autocross, raced, and drove it home.

Again, thanks for the reassurance!

Must've missed this or it was a later edit. I've already decided to do that and get the stronger, metal master cylinder reenforcement. I understand these are common areas of failure.
