Advice on purchasing Evo

Hey guys ive been on the prowl looking to purchase an evo. Im really close to purchasing this evo:

2003 Evo TB
92,000 miles
Engine stock
-Maintance on time water pump, head gasket, arp head studs gates, timing and balance belts
-New clutch not even 100 miles
-Tein lowering springs
exterior: evo 9 headlights,evo 9 jdm taillights

The guy is asking $14,000

Car looks in great condition but I'm not mechanically inclined.

Do you guys think i should purchase with 92,000 miles?
Is 14,000 worth it?
What should i be looking for with a high mile, 8 year old car?
Ive read common problem is transmission what should i be listening/looking for when driving/ shifting?

Any other info would be great help and im a really looking to become a part of this great community.

Im about to look at an evo tomorrow with 117k for 12.7k, so it sounds like he is around the right area. These things retain their value pretty well..

as for the transmission, you want to watch out for whining at deceleration. the early 03's had an issue, but if this one lasted 92k without you should be good

the search feature works pretty well otherwise

Looks good but I am with Jose on this one. You may get a decent deal now, but end up having to fork over some money withing a year or so to fix some things. Not saying it's a definite, but something to keep in mind when getting a car with 100k.

Front bumper is missing vents and undertray.

Mileage means nothing as long as services were performed.

So very true, these machines are meant to withstand Rally abuse.

I'm going to disagree about the mileage thing because someone could do all the service on time, but if it was driven like they are meant to be, 90k on an evo can be a lot of rough miles. I don't mean to discourage you from buying an evo. It was the part where you said you are not mechanically inclined that has me thinking you might be better off spending the same money on something more reliable or lower mileage. Just a thought, but these things can be money pits if you don't do any of your own wrenching.

It's more mileage than I would buy one with.

Have you tried searchtempest.com ?

It searches craigslist posts in all areas instead of just one, so you save a lot of time and get to see all over the country. I live in wisconsin, and ended up driving to Ohio, and picking up a PERFECT bone stock 03 evo with 45k miles for $15,000

100% worth the 10 hour each way drive, and I'm really glad i looked everywhere.
