Race gas question

Ok guys I am new to this tune the car everything you do game. If I go to the track and run race gas do I have to change the tune or will the ecu automatically detect the higher octane? Right now on pump I am only running 14 psi of boost, the car pulls pretty hard.

This car supposebly put down 420 HP but I don't know how much boost or anything. I know it has alky injection but the PO never used it, but it was used before he owned it, but I do not know if it was used on the tune and I do not want to use it so I am assuming it needs a retune. I have a laptop finally but not the other items needed yet. Thanks guys.

turn the boost up 14 is low for pump gas... however it would be a good idea to check the tune...

I thought it was awful low because stock is around 19, but the PO told me I cannot turn it up without a retune. I don't think the PO knew anything about the car except how to drive it. I do not have any of the cables or software to check the tune yet, I am poor and saving up the money to buy the stuff. I have asked for help in the regionals because the car will die on occassion at a stop light but no one is willing to help. I also read on here that you cannot just turn up the boost but I am guessing they mean above stock.

I am buying a wideband today from a vendor on here, as I was told the gauge in the car was a wideband but I thought it was just a narrow band with how much it bounced around so I looked into it and it is only a narrow band. Why is a mass air meter needed on these cars if you cannot just increase the airflow a few psi. ? It would seem to me you can increase the boost and the MAF will adjust the fuel for the amount of air as long as the car is tuned for the mods.

You should take the car to a reputable shop to evaluate the tune currently loaded.

I should've added the car was tuned by Pruven Performance. The car runs fine except idle, it jumps up and down and dies sometimes, which I was told was normal for Evo's and was also told how to help that. I just talked with a vendor on here and they said the boost definately needs to be raised because 14 is to low for this turbo, but I cannot raise it without a retune.

Question somewhat now resolved, but I still am not getting the answer about if I have to switch tunes in the ecu from a pump map to a race gas map or does the ecu detect this by means of the knock sensor and timing, or some other way ?

if it was tuned at pruven give them a call

but you dont own an SRT4,it will not automatically change your tune, On most evo 03 VIIIs the the map switch is the intercooler sprayer button near your cup holder. Hold that down and see if you I/C sprayer light flashes on your gauge panel.

if not then you need a tactrix cable to manually switch maps. dont forget to turn that boost up once the race gas is in

Yes, you need a tune for all gas types as mapping is different.

100 tune, 110 tune, e85, meth, etc.

what you explained here you are probably loosing power with race gas.
The race gas its harder to burn. So yes you need a different tune .
Also 14 psi seems pretty low with a 4G63 or the 4B11.

Now this is what I was looking for. I do not have the factory intercooler sprayer it now has an NX Express IC sprayer on a toggle switch and push button. The factory sprayer button does nothing.

The mention of calling Pruven, I may have to do that but I do not know what they can tell me being I do not know the guys name who had the car when it was tuned there. The PO to me did not do anything to the car except let it sit in his garage. He owned the car for 6 yrs. and only put 13,000 miles on it. I also know the car is not an SRT-4 but I am used to a 1g dsm where I can turn the boost up with no problems. To me it just makes no sense to have a mass air meter if it cannot tell the ecu how much air is being metered and to spray X amount of fuel. But I guess the ecu still assumes the car has stock components.

oh ok, yes. try holding down the IC spray button and see if your light flashes,if it does thats your RG map. but getting in contact with the previous owner is your best bet

and yes, with the RG, you can turn the boost up on the stock map,ive done it and got 0 knock, but i also have a knock light(CEL) and logged my runs. you might lean out your A/Frs though

The PO (previous owner) did not really know crap about the car, he just knew what all it had and who tuned it. I sent Pruven an email about what all they done to it just waiting on a reply. I have the receipt from them Dyno flash LLC as they go by and the guys name on it so hopefully they can give me an answer on the tune and at what boost. I am half scared to hold the button to see what it does, I am afraid it will get stuck in the RG tune the way my luck goes. I am going to wai t until they tell me how they did it. Thanks for the help though.
