What to do,what to do

Hello all, when I bought my Wrx in 2007 I didn't seek any advice on a forum and so I made a mistake. Clearly the STi is the far better choice between the two(sti and wrx) and now it's time to trade up and this time I need some opinions from those who know best. I am wanting to choose between an 06 Evo MR and the 08-10 Evo gsr, it seems everyone will give me different answers about what to choose so here's what I've heard online. The Evo 9 is more raw power and a true drivers car, the X is more refined and has creature comforts so on and so on. The car will be used as a grocery getter and occasionally driven the way it was intended. From what I've read the 9 is faster and I want lots of power but am not willing to swap turbos and all that jazz. Just a tune, exhaust and possibly intercooler piping. I guess I'm asking if you had to choose all over again or have owned both which rout would you take? Thanks in advance!

I've owned an 07 STi and 2 03 Ev VIII's. Been in plenty of 10's and 9's as well. If it's mainly going to be a grocery getter, I'd say go for the X. It's just as good as the 8's ad 9's IMO and, as you said, has better creature comforts. The biggest difference, again, IMO, is the Evo 8 and 9's just feel more raw.

I've owned both an '06 IX GSR and a '10 X GSR and to be perfectly honest, the X is the easy choice for me. I enjoyed the IX and put 40k relatively reliable daily-driven miles on it, but I far and away enjoy my time in the X more. I've made more power with less mods, it handles better thanks to S-AWC, the interior has a lot of nice features (cruise control, Bluetooth, auto climate control, steering wheel radio controls, etc.), it's quieter, and its more comfortable.

If it matters, my wife has a 2007 WRX Limited.

I love my 9 to death, but it sounds like a 10 would be better for you...

Thanks for the quick response guys, just seems like a good idea to get input before I go out and start my search. So 3 Evo X votes maybe I should have started a poll.

I'm very impressed with the numbers put down by these Xs on this site, you don't have to do a whole lot to make good power.

I was in the same situation as you this time last year except I had an 05 STI. I test drove a X because I thought that is what I really wanted, after the test drive I started looking for low mileage mint IX's.

Good luck with your search.

So you weren't impressed w/ the X or the IX was more your cup of tea?

The X's are ok, the IX just got my blood pumping and reminded me of my 05 STI only much better. The X reminded me of the GR STI (08 and up), still a good car but not really an STI anymore.

I also really don't like heavy *** cars and I already think my IX is a heavy pig so imagine how I fell about the X's... In the end it's all personal preference, I know I won't own another USDM Evo unless it's another IX because of the direction the line is going.

I'm sorry; I just don't understand how something like this can happen. I mean for starters, the differences between a (07) WRX and a STi are pretty clear and were fully illustrated on Subaru's website, along with an increase in price, among a slew of alternate venues supplying identical information.

Regardless, for you I'd suggest the X. Good luck.
