My family lives in Florida which does not require emission testing and I happen to live in Memphis, TN that won't allow you to register a car without emissions testing.

Anyone know if I were to have my parents register/title the car in their name in Florida if they would have to insure it or if I could insure it as my primary car?

I was wondering if this would pose a problem with local authorities or would be considered insurance fraud?

I really liked knowing if I wanted a performance exhaust I wouldn't have to worry about having to take it off for emissions testing.

I'm looking to buy a car next week in Florida and I figure it'd be convenient to just have my parents register/title it there. I just don't know the legalities.

Any ideas?

 

A side note: I've been eyeing a 1999 Silvia S15 for about a week... I have doubts I could drive it legally in TN.
