New member from PA - MR or No?

Hey everyone!
Im in the market for a new car and I am really interested in either an 03-06 evo! I always loved the cars and have heard alot of good things about them, and maybe one day I can take mine to the track.

Im just curious as to the MR edition. I know it comes with Bilstein shocks and some other goodies but what really interests me is the 6 speed. Is it really worth the extra money for the MR or no?

Thanks in advance!

Welcome, and as for modding, the 6 is slightly weaker then the 5. I'm in PA, where about are you located?

If your going to drive long distances get the 6-speed. If not, and you will go to the strip and or drive it hard,I would go for the 5-speed.

Yes. This being said, at this point in time you're better of buying the best Evo you can find regardless of model designation.

I'm in PA. as well. I have an 05 MR and originally I bought this car thinking I wouldn't mod it. I was wrong.

The 5 spd supposedly holds up better than the 6 spd, but another thing is with the 6 spd you will be shifting to 5th gear in the 1/4 after a few mods. That's 1 extra shift that you won't have to do with the 5 spd.

If you buy an 05 MR keep it stock. Not many people did which makes it more rare than it originally was.

Or just don't drag race it? Much simpler, I might be speaking out of context when I say most people do not bring there Evos to a drag strip.
Buy an Mr, you will be much happier you did. Get an 06. Best of........ everything. Dont let a $1000 transmission swap detour you from BBS wheels,Bilsteins, carbon interior bits, aluminum roof and on average $2k more on book value.
-I know someone who did the 5 speed swap, he hates it, I drove it and it feel like garbage vs a 6 speed. Shep has his 6 speed gears out as far as I know.

I simply meant 05 MR is rare car, don't buy it to mod it. Keep it as a collectors piece. MR in 06 was the most common trim for the Evo IX so it doesn't matter if you decide to mod it or not.

I bought my 2006 IX MR brand new and it now has 80K on it. I LOVE the 6-speed and would never change it! I have added the WORKS 6-speed short shifter too...I have NEVER had any shifter, etc. issues. It's a daily driver and is modified. MR FTW!
