Late timing belt change
Late timing belt change
Im looking at a 03 EVO 8 with 104,000 miles that looks in tip top shape on the outside but thats not what worries me. When I asked the guy if he had the timing belt changed at 60000 like its recommended he told me no and that he just had it changed about 2,000 miles ago...... so he basically drove 42,000 over the recommended up keep. what could have happened to the engine with a belt that worn and what should I be looking for?
As long as the belt didn't break, there is no harm. The thing to look out for is other neglectful behavior. Just go down a list of recommended maintenance and see where this car is. Also, don't take his word for it, make sure he has receipts for that belt change. Make sure he did pulleys, tensioners, water pump, etc. and check for OEM parts too.
My guess, the car has been neglected. Buyer beware.
