New guy from RI

New guy here hoping to make the transition from Honda to Mitsubishi, Ive mainly been into hondas from the begining not because of the hype just because of the ease of use factor i guess. Had my first turbo experience back at 17 by doing my own junkyard kit and the little tuning knowledge i have(chromePro, dsm 450s , eclipse sidemount intercooler, saab turbo bblah blah blah). Needless to say ive been at it ever since(24 now) but with better more expensive parts(everyone knows how that bug is) built blocks ,high boost levels none of that typical honda ricer "o im on 8lbs and my **** is fast".So needless to say im not oblivious to the whole turbo car gig . Ive been going back and forth between the STI and the EVO till i stumbled across this site and had a whole new out look on things. Im currently serving in afghanistan and am 2.5 months from comming home. Ive been talking to a local dealer and managed to find an 03 EVO8 with about 60thousand miles for 16k. Im new to these cars so idk much about them but it looks stock all around and seems fairly cheap(ive decided to put a deposit on it which they will allow me to take back if i am unhappy with it on the test drive) so its basically mine cause they are very pro military. Ive read almost every thread on new owners advice and what to look for before purchase on this site which were all very informative ,Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Yey for another local!

glad you went with the Evo.

I was in the same position for like 6months going back and forth between the STI and Evo...

But my major points to buy the evo(Yes I bought my evo without even test driving it)

1.) Color options... First saw blue by you, back in 05 when I lived in ohio I saw Buschur's BR330 at the local dealership... fell in love...
2.) Recaro seats,
3.) Momo shift knob
4.) BBS/Enkei Wheels(STI offers BBS I know)
5.) I FEEL they are less common... I see STI's almost daily(aside from my 3 buddies at work with em) Evo's I barely ever see...
6.)Easier to work on, I love the engine setup and everything is right there!
7.) Body style I like the sharpness of the evo rather then the more rounded STI...

the one thing I will give the STI(Which I completely respect) they have amazing sounding motors when they have just an exhaust. I could listen to that all day

Not sure this means much since you already have the down payment, but just figured I'd toss in my .02
