Its not a common problem First I would check your shifterbushings and linkage if there are any on this car. I know that was a problem when I had a honda and an SRT4 when I had one. Im not too sure about this car unless your pedal adjustment is off to disengage the clutch is too low for it to get into gear woul dbe my second guess. But I would wait for further replies.

I have trouble getting into first if my car is moving. For example rolling into a driveway/carpark, if I try to shift to first I will quite often need to let go of the clutch pedal and try again several times before it goes in. It will go in if I force it but that's not exactly healthy. Every now and then I can't get into first standing still but one more try always gets it.

I haven't solved the issue yet but here's what I do know about it.
-My clutch is dragging.
-Several of my synchros are worn (combination of previous owner and dragging clutch).

What I am going to do
-Replace fluid (trans fluid/synchromesh blend)
-Replace clutch master and slave cylinders (hopefully I don't have to do the throw out bearing but if I do then that too)
-Replace clutch fluid
-Upgrade shifter bushings

I've thought about a weighted shift knob but I'm not keen on the idea.

What I recommend for you
-Test to see if your clutch is dragging, if it is, adjust your clutch pedal (youtube jacks transmissions clutch adjust, that'll give you all the info)
-Ensure your servicing is up to date
-Upgrade your shifter bushings

okay ill look into getting new bushings.
but now, the next morning (probably 30 degrees outside)

-cant go into 1st gear unless i jam it in (can feel teeth grinding when i have it pushed half way)
-every gear is hard to get into

could this be because its cold? im hoping because its annoying having to jam it into 1st because it grinds so loud

I would trouble shoot it like this

-Check shifting cables and make sure they are secured where they are supposed to be and nothing is wrong/bent or anything

-Adjust clutch engagement

-Change transmission fluid

I bet your clutch isnt adjusted properly like Jay said above. The throw should be relatively long, with engagement near the top. There is a write up in the Evo how to section on adjustment. If that doesnt work, try re-bleeding your clutch through your slave cyl.

Good luck.

Thats my bet. Should have new fluids etc. The pedal needs to be properly adjusted for the new clutch. Here is the link to the clutch pedal adjustment.

I would do it asap. you dont want to be replacing a transmission/clutch. only takes 5 minutes. you just need a 12mm wrench.
