Selling my Evo.. Accept a STi trade?
And I've never traded a car before but I've bought and sold around 15 different ones. And I can surely say that I hate paying sales tax even if the receipt is lower than what I paid, it still sucks. When you trade a car straight up you don't have to pay sales tax correct? That's one other reason why I was considering it
Where'd you see this Cobra at? I haven't seen any in this area, and I can never find anyone to mess with when I'm out in my Evo
And I noticed the STi blue books for almost 2 grand more. What is up with that?? I know it's one year newer but still.. Just figured maybe the STi would be easier to sell for a little more money with it having a higher retail and all. And people seem to have a hard time getting loans for anything higher then the retail of the car they want.

04 sti's are a bastard year. they are 5x100 bolt pattern on the wheels and they didnt have automatic climate control till 05. They arent as desirable as 05-07 but the java black pearl is a semi rare color.
Thanks for the tips brother. I don't really know much about the STi's. Just want to get into a Cobra asap and if that's going to give me a better chance then I will try it.
I prefer the highway for cruising, also transit/main/sheridan are also spots I'm on frequently.
Too bad you made this post so late. I had an 04 Cobra with 30k miles I was selling a little while back. I probably would have traded for an Evo. It was in mint condition and drove awesome. It made like 460whp/486wtq on a Mustang dyno with basic bolt-ons and a tune.
It was a fun car, but gas mileage and bad handling ruined it for me. I loved the power though and it was really easy to drive everyday. I don't really consider myself a Mustang guy, but I always wanted to own a Terminator Cobra. I got that out of my system and enjoyed it. If I found a good price on a Sonic Blue one I would probably buy another one.

That's why I love my Lightning... Basically a terminator with a bed.. Haha. Just be ready to cough up some loot for gas once you start modding... I have just about every bolt on imaginable and a built JDM motor in mine... 80lb injectors... I get about 8-9 miles to the gallon! And unless you are riding around with slicks on, you can throw "traction" right out the window hahah
Other then that, I love that Whine every time I punch it...

Damn man, yeah I really want a sonic blue or competition orange, just hard to find. A guy that wanted to buy my Evo locally had a really mint Sonic Blue with 9k on it but he was too attached to it. It's something I've always wanted since I was raised in a Blue Oval family and have always been a Mustang guy. I know the Evo is a better car all around, but I guess sometimes its more about the car you have always wanted.
My buddy has one built for autocross/road racing and it handles pretty great for a Cobra.

In Texas you still will have to pay tax. They tax you on the Blue Book value of the car when you go to get the title transferred under your name. And in Texas the condition of the car doesnt mean squat anymore. You could buy a car for $1000 because it is beat to ****. But if the car normally is worth $5000, then you will pay taxes on $5000. Not the $1000 you bought it for. Trading is the same way. They just tax you when you try to put the car under your name
LOL! I know man whatever it takes
So I love my Evo but have recently decided to try and sell it so I could get the car I've always wanted.. A 03 04 Cobra (Terminator).. I Have a 03 Evo with 67k on it, extremely clean. Have had quite a few interested people but of course they end up having problems coming up with loans and all that B.S..
I have gotten several STi trade offers and I don't like STi's, I know the Evo is better all around and has a way stronger motor. But there is a very clean STi with minimal mods that wants to trade (04 java black with 62k on it). I was thinking of maybe doing it for the heck of it and then seeing if I could sell that one quicker to get a cobra.
Sorry for the long rant, but what is your advice?

As a few people have mentioned, Java Black Pearl was a 2004-only color, so it is "rare," but I don't think that's a big selling point. That model year itself is difficult in some ways (as someone else pointed out the bolt pattern being different, plus I think later models ran wider wheels), plus while the color wasn't produced that long, it was interesting but not exactly a great color. It basically looked like it had gold flakes in it, which actually somewhat matched the gold wheels (if you had those and not the silver ones), but I always thought it made the car look dirty all the time, like there was dust on it. I suppose there's a reason why they ditched that particular color so quickly but kept the others while replacing it with a new black color (I can't remember the name, but it was more traditional and had different colored flakes in it, like blue and a few others) and even adding a completely different one in Crystal Grey Metallic (which was my personal favorite of all colors the WRX/STI was made in).
I would hang on to the Evo for a little while longer then trade or sell for the Cobra. Trading twice might have some complications as stated. I also think the Evos are holding there value as well. Im in the market for another Evo 9 and there selling for around the same or a little more then what i paid for mine 3 and a half years ago lol. It's crazy but i guess thats a good thing that there holding value. I had a 04 Cobra as well in 2008, I loved the car but would rather have the Evo. Good luck man!
