The evo 8 that I bought the previous owner took out the stock hood vent and just added a mesh. Obviously when it rains the engine gets wet. It does have a header shield. Should I be running it open like that or should I invest in a hood vent? I am just imagining driving thru a storm. It has an aftermarket intake with the intake filter close to the hood mesh but not visible if you stand over it.
If your daily driving it all weather conditions then I would definitely pick up a hood vent. Here's a new one but, I'm sure you could pick up a used one a little cheaper. http://www.lancershop.com/customer/p...9&cat=49&page=
It's not necessary. On my first IX MR I swapped to a carbon hood, but then when I swapped back to stock I still ran with it open. Ran it like that with zero issues till I sold the car with 180,000 miles.
yes, that's right...180,000 miles. For at least 160,000 of those miles, the hood vent had no rain guard. it's actually better for cooling without the guard. I haven't taken the guard off of the EVO IX MR I have now just because I haven't thought about it until now lol
Took mine off and it survived the Oregon rain but the engine bay got dirty quick. I put it back on because I started to appreciate the clean look the vent gives the Evo.
No vent for years in the Oregon rain! I even have a hood dump and that ****er fills up with water all the time. I have a plug for the pipe but I forget all the time. I'm going on 7 years w/o cover. I've had stock mani, SS tube Headers etc and all of them fared well
My exhaust manifold (made for twin scroll turbo) is so twisted that one of the pipes nearly touched heat shield. After one ride it was so hot that I removed it. I never had any issues riding without it even in rain or while washing the car. And it looks cool
I live in Oregon and have a hood dump. I only have the wire screen and it's been fine for 4 years like that through torrential downpour and snow storms. The only issue that I've had bc of the water is that the belt gets wet sometimes but other than that I try to put the dump plug in if I can remember but the boost blows the water out quick.

I take mine out in the summer and on in the fall/winter. I'd find one.
