To buy or not to buy?

Hi all...I have owned a WRX for the past 10 years that finally gave up the ghost recently. I am probably going to get an EVO and have the chance to get a clean 2008 GSR with 42,000 miles on it for $28k. The car is stock. I am wondering if I should buy this or get a brand new car. I plan on modding the car but if I get the used car I would mod it sooner rather than later while if I get a new car I would wait a while.

Should I go for the 2008? Is there anything I should be worried about?

Any help is appreciated.

Pretty sure the first year had some issues and parts that will need to be replaced with better parts. Obviously if you're modding the car this is virtually no issue.

Get a new one. For $4-$5k more you can get a new one. Wait a month or so and get a 2013.

I believe the 08's had the most timing chain issues. I think they had a poor tune in comparison. And I really dont like the red center display.

But if you can afford New I recommend it. I don't worry about my Evo and if something does go wrong it will be warranted because I am 100% stock.

Yeah. The 08 is $28k. I paid $33.8k for my 2012 (Base though). And I'm in an area with very few Evo's and with dealers who dont really haggle. I keep seeing posts about how others paid thousands under invoice yada yada. But I think you can get a GSR for $33k or less.

If I go new, I want a base car. I am going to customize it to my taste and I know factory radio/speakers usually suck, so why pay extra if I am only going to rip it out anyway?

In the Subaru community, most people have gone away from the spoiler. What is the feeling in the Mitsubishi community? Still using the spoiler or not?

Love the spoiler but you will see mixed thoughts on it.

I have the RF system in my Eclipse and its pretty good IMO. Not top quality but not bad for OEM stock. Most people get the SS because they want the HID's more then the sound. But I don't really do a lot of night driving and I live in a city with alot of street lights so I really didn't care about the HID's. I had them on my Outlander Sport and haven't really missed them. Plus I can add a sound system for much cheaper then $2100. After financing you end up paying around $2400 for it anyways.

I didn't even consider the Navi package. I can really care less about that.

And the SL would be nice. I would like to have a sunroof. But I didn't care to have leather. I think it looks nice but it's always hot in my area and I find the cloth to be more comfortable. Just wasn't worth the $2 grand IMO. I think the Evo's are a little over priced as it is. I just wasn't wanting to pay over $40k for the Evo. I'm happy with my base Evo and lower payment.

Kendogg, I agree with everything you said. HID's would be nice, but not NEEDED. Thanks for the input.

28k for a 08 with 42k miles is pretty exspensive. I got my 2011 GSR with 8k miles for 30.5k. The stock Rockford is decent like kendogg said but you can do better for cheaper. I have a kenwood DD419 App Radio Double Din Unit with a Kicker Comp 12" and a 600W Amp and that was only $1200 installed and it hits way harder then the fosgate. For factory though, it's not bad but it's not necessary. I love the spoiler on the GSR as well. I had a sunroof in my GTS before the GSR and I hardly used it. It's cool to have but also, not necessary or worth price IMO. HID's are decent though and would be a good bet.

Coming from someone who bought my GSR (IX, not X) knowing it did not come with HIDs, I will tell you that I will NEVER again buy a car that does not come with with HIDs from the factory.

I really don't do that much night driving, but I still regret not having them. First of all, they increase your visibility tenfold imo. They also make the car look so much better imo.

I don't know exactly how difficulty it is to CORRECTLY install hid on a non-hid X, but on the 8/9 it is a difficult expensive process that makes spending the extra $2k worth it to ME.

Also, I have heard that the Rockford is a pretty good system.

That being said, 28k is too much for an 08 with 42k miles.

I believe it costs around $900 plus labor to put them in the X for factory HIDs

So that's labor + new heads + hids?

If that's the case, then that is not that bad.

It's pretty much a whole new everything. The only problem is there is a small flicker problem and also you need to do a DRL-Bypass.
