Buying an Evo 8 - Oil issues
Hi folks,
I'm a new member here, thinking of buying myself an Evo 8. I'm a fast bike man historically but I've barely used two wheels for a year or so, so I've decided to put em up for sale and get a car!
I've been to see one which generally looks in good nick. It's an FQ300 UK model. The lines are all straight, tires are good, totally stock as far as I can see. Lacquer peeling on wheels and calipers but otherwise good, save for a few small points:
1- The MIL (Engine Check) light is coming on, which the dealer reckons is because it's been stood and the oil in one of the diffs has gummed up. He assures me it's going to an Evo specialist to have this sorted before purchase, but I don't know whether to be alarmed or not. Is there really a sensor for gummed up oil? Is this not an oil pressure light and a big warning sign? They've had it out for test drives in the meantime which seems unwise if the tranny isn't being lubed as it should.
2- Smaller issue but the 'wing' support on the left side of the driver seat is mobile and squeeky. I had a fiddle with it but couldn't fix it, they've said they'll look into it but I know from past experience seats can be a nightmare to fix.
Just wondered what peoples opinions on the above issues are. Would appreciate any advice.
I have an EOBD scanner which I can take along if I go back for a test drive and to negotiate a deal, so I can check about the MIL light in a bit more detail.
Cheers,
Rich

Yea bring the scanner and pull the code then post it up. The dealer is an asshat "gummed up" oil in a diff would not throw a CEL.
Though being a UK model I do not know if there are any AYC specific codes.
Make sure to have the car gone over top to bottom by said EVO specialist. I recommend being there at the time of inspection
PS: if this is Richard Hammond don't you like the Impreza STi more anyway
