Joined the Dark Side: From 2011 WRX to 2012 Evolution X GSR

While I've always loved Subaru's (had two so far) I've also had my eye on the Evo for many years. Its price and the high insurance associated with it has unfortunately kept it out of my reach for some time. Thank goodness I'm finally at a point where I'm financially able and the insurance has dropped considerably because of my age and record.

I began searching locally but no dealers had any stock in. I did however come across a 2012 Wicked White GSR up past Charlotte, NC through autotrader. I took the day off after a lot of negotiation over email and was ready to make a deal if I really enjoyed the car on the test drive. Needless to say I was sold after a short joy-ride =) I was impressed with just about everything on the car, including the excellent Recaro seats, beefy 5 speed and of course how solid the entire car felt. It comes alive at relatively low RPM's and there is little to no lag...very responsive. It came straight off the showroom floor with 6 miles so I have some breaking in to do before I have some fun in the twisties Just thought I'd share my trade in experience so far. I"ll update once I get to really test out the handling and overall performance at a higher level.

What's the ballpark of what you paid for it? And does Mitsubishi still make the X? I thought they stopped, but maybe they just stopped updating the model?

Paid around 36k and yes they are still making the X. The 2013 model has hit some dealers...I believe that will be the last production run till the XI comes out down the road.

Thanks! Handled the entire deal over email and one phone call.

And I was almost certain with the Wicked White "Storm Trooper" look we had to be on the dark side

I'm still breaking it in so I've yet to really test it but so far it already feels a great deal more solid in terms of handling and composure. The torque also comes on much lower with less lag felt in the WRX. Can't wait to open her up after the 600 mile mark

Ah, sweet, good to hear they'll still make it. Thought they were completely done. With all these manufacturers going to full or semi automatic transmissions, there will still be a car for me to upgrade to in the future.

Have the identical car, only extras I got from the dealership was the upgraded handling package and 3 m clear sticker on front and fenders and mirrors. Congrats sir. I fell in love with the white as well. Hardest part for me was breaking it in nice and easy knowing what kind of power it has. Worth breaking in properly for sure. Amazing how many lil punks want to race though, I normally don't bother but it's alot if fun, especially when it's a Subaru in the other lane, shame they normally only see the back of the car though, the front is so pretty lol.

I love subies, too. Had the bug eye back in the day. So what did you like about your 2011? Didn't you like? How about that turning radius, huh?

Congrats on the purchase.

That 3M bra is good stuff. I wish I had it on mine. Yeah the break-in period is tough but a must and that first mountain run or twisty road you come across at WOT makes the investment worth it and more

I haven't had a chance to run any Subies yet but my friend did just acquire a 2007 STI that's a stage 2 tuned by Forged Performance. Needless to say on the straight I would get walked, lol. I'm still confident I would win on the track (road course) however...and then when I go stage 2 it's "Game Over Man!" The best part is I have only seen 2 other X's since I got mine. It's great having a car you love and that is rare at that.
