Talking STi owner looking to make the swap...

Hey guys, super EVO noob here. I've had my 04' STi for about a year and a half now and while I have had a lot of fun with it (and equally as many problems), I've always been more drawn to the EVO's look.

Basically, I'm thinking about swapping but I know nothing about the EVO's internals or which car I should go for 04? 05?. I'm a fan of the VIII and would like something I can either straight swap with my STi or maybe even make a little money back, but I also don't want to downgrade on power or extras.

Any help would be greatly appreciated Thanks for reading, I know emotions run high when conversing with the "enemy". Subie/EVO rivalry nonsense :P

In case anyone is interested in swapping...here is a pic of my STi:

Good call. I had a bone stock 04 STi until this summer. Had a lot of fun with it, but I've been a huge Evo fan since they came stateside. Both are equally excellent fun in my experience. There's a great wealth of information on here about the differences in model years and relevant mechanical information, do some browsing I'm sure you'll find an answer to every question you might have.

Oh, and now you can trade big ticket repairs from #4 ringlands busting to whining ring and pinions in transfer cases!

Good luck, happy research/shopping.

I owned a 07 sti and now just got my evo8 ssl this week. I don't drive the cars hard but appreciate and like to have fun once in a while. Here are my thoughts.

- I really like the SSL, I would prefer the 9 seats but the leather is nice too. I really like the sunroof, HID (standard on STI). The sound is nicer than the STI.
- I think both cars look great on the outside.
- The interior is much nicer on the STI, really like the gauges on it. The seats on the evo blow away the sti though.
- I prefer the 6 speed on STI than the 5 speed on the EVO, not a big deal though.
- It seems the evo can make much more power for less money and is more reliable.
- I feel the evo is better for performance and sti for a everyday car.
- I wish I can have both at the same time but I'm glad I had a chance to try both.

Great info so far guys, thanks. I'm gonna take a look at a white evo 9 MR today after work. Looks to be in decent condition and can possibly straight trade my STi for it. Wish me luck!

Looks great! 100% Clean title? If the price is right I wouldn't hesitate. WW IX's are in pretty high demand right now...

Nice looking STI. My buddy is selling his for an Evo too it sucks how these motors can't hold power like the Evo's. You'll be much happier I'm sure, handling is quite a bit better too.

Coming from my own experience, I wouldn't buy an Evo from a dealer again. Try to find a 1-2 owner with lower miles. I searched for quite a while until I found my 2 owner 29k mile Evo. Now I have 79k miles almost 6 years later and still couldn't be happier.

to op. What issues have you had with your STI? Just curious on that. I'm sure you could find another member to trade up with. what all is done with your STI?

I also went from a subaru to a evo, you're going to miss the interior on the STi but that's about it! As tempting as it is I would stay away from a modified evo if you can.

I call bs personally. The STI dash is cheezy imo and the seats suck, Recaro and Momo ftw

First, welcome to what everyone else seems to call, 'The Dark Side'. I always thought we were the good guys?

There is a wealth of resources and knowledge on this site, but you can start right here:

Well, it's mostly due to it being neglected by the previous owner. When I bought the car, it was stripped of a lot of STI parts and replaced with WRX. I assume because they wanted to get a few extra bucks before trading in? I don't know. But it was a nightmare. Over the course of last year I had to buy a new radiator, new right front axle, new front brembos/rotors/lines/pads, and new STI intercooler. And it's still missing its STI headlights. They swapped those out too . But other than that, I've kept up on all maintenance 60k/90k etc. Everything else is in good working order. I'm just exhausted of it though. Having to do all of this really bummed me out and put a bad taste in my mouth about the car. So whoever trades for it...is gonna get a fairly fresh 04' STI lol.

Keep in mind I was a complete newb to performance cars when I bought it...so lesson learned. But now that I know a little more about everything, I won't make the same mistake with the EVO.

Right now, the only aftermarket money I've put into is an Invidia N1 catback, python alarm, hybrid GFB bov, v-limited front lip, carbon fiber hoodscoop, rallyarmor mudflaps. Rest of my hard earned cash has gone into repairs and maintenance. So it's still mostly stock.
