Do you install aftermarket parts yourself?

I just got my short downpipe and catback....and i know it's not hard to install the exhaust, but everything for evo is expensive......normal auto shop only cost 25 to 50 to install it but road race want 200 up.....a huge difference, so what's you guys suggestion???
Do it myself or road race......thanks

Yes. Everything I've bought for the Evo so far I've installed myself, with obviously the help of the boyfriend or friends when I couldn't get something. The exhaust is super easy to do and if you have the means to do it yourself, just do it. It will save you money that you don't really need to spend.

Agreed. Bolt-ons (I.e. exhaust, intake, fmic) are pretty easy installs and can be done by yourself, with a buddy's help of course. Now when you start getting inside the engine, that's a different story. For me at least.

You ever do a downpipe on the X??

And anyone who tell you to just do it yourself, has never done one on an evo X.
Not saying people can't do it, but it is a pain in the butt.

I've never paid a shop to do anything on my cars. It's not that hard, if you can follow directions you can work on car. Especially nowadays with shop manuals, youtube, forums, etc.

Take the money you would have spent on shop labor and get some nice tools and do everything yourself. The knowledge you'll gain is invaluable and you can say you did everything yourself.

If you did make an exception to that rule in any area it could be tuning. While I still think it's not hard it does take time and little mistakes there could have nasty consequences. If that scares you then take the money you saved from installing everything yourself and spend some on a good tuner.

I installed most of my bolt-on's except for the O2 DP, paid a shop for it. The hadest part of the install install is removing O2 housing /shield to from the turbo. If it is after the O2 you can probably do it your self. "O2 housing" may not be the correct name, but you guys know what I'm talking about.

Everything is done at home except machine work, welding, and tuning. And with those, I'm involved all the way through.

This...

Evo 8/9 sure, takes 10min, but an X is a royal pain...

That being said, I've done everything on mine at least once, and if for some reason it doesnt work and I messed it up, I'll have a shop do it for peace of mind, otherwise, me, a few buddies and some

Definitely did everything myself or with my buddy...I have to say though...TOOLS MATTER! I have purchased a lot of tools to be able to do things on my own...great feeling
