where to get an evo 8 or 9?

Hey guys im looking to buy an evolution 8 or 9 gsr. I dont want over 100k miles on it and as close to stock as possible. i knew this was going to be tough to find but didnt think this bad.. i have been looking everyday for the past month and have not really found anything. i have found a couple of them that were clean, stock and low mileage but are soo far away. ive look on here( cant post a wtb thread, not enough post) craigslist, and autotrader and nothing hardly. i live in NC and dont want to travel to far honestly. i have cash in hand its just a matter of finding the right one now.

hard to find evos with low mileage BUT you did the right thing in coming to evoM, my first regret was buying my car off someone who wasnt known on here... so far i have had no problems with mine at 106xxx miles, it kinda bugs me though since this was my first large car purchase i wish i would have waited for an evo with 70k miles that i have seen in the past few months .

short story- wait for the right car, with mileage that you will be comfortable with, make sure its a trusted member on here...

good luck man

don't know if you're new to the car game or not, but the above sums it up really.

For any commonly modded car, especially something older which the evo 8/9 is creeping towards its just a matter of keeping your eyes peeled and waiting to find the right one.

think finding a clean evo is hard, try finding rust free clean datsuns, rx7's, 240's, etc

Its not easy, but its very doable and there are PLENTY out there.

Keep the cash in hand, and stay on the look. Don't give in and get the first one that comes up close by, be willing to drive a few hours and hold out for a clean low mile car. Its worth the wait.

You'll end up regretful with a car like the evo if you buy a high mile/modded one. Unless its dirty cheap and you're willing to work on it of course.

I appreciate the replies guys! And yea i definiately dont want to get a modded, high mileage car and be regretful a week later which is why i hold myaelf back from alot of ads and post even though its very tempting to get the search over with and be done. I dont mind driving a couple hours to go pick up a nice one at all. It doew make me feel better though thay you say theres plenty out there there and will probably helpcme stay focused onon waiting for the right one.

Yea what they said. I would only consider buying one from a member on here, I'd feel a bit sketched out buying one off craigslist or cars.com again. When I bought mine I didn't even know about Evom, luckily I made a pretty good buy. 29k miles 6 years ago for 21K, yea it was raced, it looked stock but I later learned it has a 9 motor swap and other things were changed, then put back to stock. Overall I'm happy I jumped on it, drove all the way from NY to Georgia for it. I'll have my Viii forever.

Where are you looking, finding an evo <100k miles should be pretty easy. Finding one stock is another story.

Since you're in nc look up cosmo motors in hickory, they always have evo's under 100k

I've said this once and I will continue to say it. While your search isn't impossible so to say, it's not going to be easy either. You've only been looking a month. Give it time. It looks me MONTHS of looking and looking and looking. Comparing cars, miles, etc etc. I know you said you don't want to travel far but sometimes in order to find the car you want, you should consider it. Do a google search of "cars for sale" and just go from there. Don't limit yourself to one site or one area. Good luck.

Everyone's pretty much spot on with the advice. I waited several months to buy my current 8 and I drove 6 and a half hours to go pick it up from a member on here with excellent feedback. No regrets!

yea im going to take my time and get the right one. About Cosmo motors, i havent dealt with them personally and ive read some reviews on them and they are good but ive heard lots of bad things about them and my friends experiences. I posted on facebook " what does everyone think about Cosmo Motors" about a month ago and everyone that commented didnt have one positive thing to say. Some guy said he bought an STI there and a week later the cluth went out, when it was in the shop getting the clutch replaced he found out there was a WRX turbo on the car. So i wouldnt feel comfortable buying from there even though they may be a good dealer. Im just going to take my time look on here and other places. Like you said i would feel more comfortable buying one off here because it seems people know a little more about the cars and how to take care of them properly. Thanks for all the info guys it really helps!!

I'd say keep looking around on the web. It's not hard if you have the cash, extra cash to ship it out to ya or fly out and drive the car back. From my personal experiences, I've always had someone knowledgeable about the car go out with me to take a look at it. Best of luck on your search and purchase.

I know how you feel. Although my ride was closer to 7 hours. I will say it was worth every hour and the no sleep I got that whole weekend

If you really want one bad enough, you will forfeit your no-travel plans or pay for shipping. Stock and low-mileage Evo's are hard to come by.

This x100000000000

You need to extend your search to more than one area. Yea it sucks if you have to fly/drive or pay for shipping but you won't regret it, I promise you. It cost me a lot to get to where I needed to get, tolls, food, etc PLUS filling 2 cars up on the way back. My bank account hated me but I would do it again if I needed to. If it means that much to you, you'll make it work.
