"New" Here & the story of my purchase

I joined the forum the first time I got a wild hair to buy an Evo...3 years ago and I've been lurking ever since.

Finally bought an 06 GSR with 75k miles a few weeks ago and I've been trying to become an Evo nerd as quickly as possible. I'm wanting to build this heap into something fun.

Thank goodness its not my DD because it looks like someone pointed at a 13 year old and said, go learn how to mod and wire stuff on that thing...I've got a lot of sorting out to do.

All things considered I got just an OK deal on it. I found it in the marketplace section and it looked like a smoking deal. After a bonzai flight to MD to drive it home to AL, I got home with numb hands (wheels were waaaaaaay out of balance), a speeding ticket in VA (because detectors are illegal so my V1 was unplugged) and then 780 miles later I was home

The car definitely wasn't "as advertised". While he did describe it as having some problems, he did stop short of telling me how big a piece this thing is. If I had not already spent a couple of hundred bucks on a plane ticket, all day in a tube and in airports, and knowing IT was my way home, I never would've bought it. Here are a few examples:
-Front and Rear collision (no mention of it)
-Whiteline sway bars front and rear (no they aren't, they're stock)
-It doesn't leak oil (are you kidding me!)
-Intercooler held up by the bumper and the pipes connected to it
-and the list goes on...

Whatever...the purchase is behind me and now I have something to mess with, hey it can't get worse, right?

I'm going to move along with it a bit more and then I'll probably get a build thread going.

I'm looking forward to learning a lot more about these cars.

Must be a common thing with evo sellers to not disclose everything. Just found out mine had a transmission rebuild and an aftermarket clutch. Not that these are bad things, the cars actually in good mechanical condition..but still, woulda been to been told.

I'm in the market for an Evo at the moment and these stories terrify me. It's first hand accounts such as these that sway me towards paying a premium for a relatively stock, one owner vehicle.

This is why I tell people to wait. If its not perfect to you, move on. In the amount you spent driving home you could of just bought a cheap plane ticket and went home. I waited a long time for mine and I'm glad I did. I'm sorry you went through this and for the people who have been told one thing just to get there and see a different thing.

With that said, just keep looking on the forums. There are so many people here that have great information and are super helpful. Start from the bottom and work your way up. You'll have a sick car in no time : )
