Evo 8 or Evo 8 MR

Hi guys, I'm stuck between buying a stock Evo 8 for around 20 k and spending engine and aesthetic mods to make it a sexy quick evo, or is it worth it to spend around 5k extra and just get a MR which is already sexy and is also quick and handles real well...I really can't seem to find an answer for this, please help!!

I love that I got an 9 MR, but I have no intention of going crazy with it. minor mods will be all this car ever sees. People are going to say the MR has a week trans or get an SE (basically an MR with a 5 spd) but I like having the MR on it.
If your gonna just rip off the suspension, change the wheels and put a carbon fiber roof on it, don't waste the money

My phone really butchered my post. I had to edit like 3 times to say almost nothing lol

Either ways you're getting a car that's atleast 7+ years old ... these cars will ned work whether you're modding or maintaining. Do a cost benefit analysis - sometimes cosmetic mods are the most useless but if that's what you want, whether the parts+labour and headache are worth vis-a-vis a ready craft. Good luck on getting one!

Stock for stock the MR is the way to go. Main reasons are lower RPM on highways and bilsteins rides much better. Having owned 03, 05mr and 06 mr the evo IX is the better choice since it has better turbos and MIVEC.

Of course price, condition and availably are priorities. If it's clean buy it. My 3rd evo was used all stock and I had replaced new OEM shocks, window trim, and headlight housing to make it look brand new.

I say the mr love the seats and the inside of the car is way nicer . The fins and the little extra stuff u get on the outside nice to but is it worth 5k more I don't think so I would ask for less if its at a dealer price at 25 ask for 23 or 25 out the door with tax depanding on miles too . Just cause it saids mr doesn't mean they can charge 30 percent more .

The mr interior is the same other than gauges and a few things that say mr on it. I'd go with the 5 speed.

For used car you need to ask for maintenance records. Which should be deciding factor.

1. Mileage and when was the timing belt changed. It's been six + years.
2. When was the clutch changed?
3. When was brakes changed. New rotor pads and etc..
4. Plugs needs to be changed often and wire if over 60k.
5. All fluids, diffs, coolant, tranny and brakes and maybe power steering fluid.

Just a quick example to justify $ difference. If Mitsubishi still sell evo 9's I'd gladly sell mine and get a brand new one. A evo X MR manual would be tempting also. Just a tad heavy.

Get the GSR. Spend the 20k on the car, then the extra 5k to make it even better. you'll be a lot
happier than if you just dumped all your money into just getting the MR.

Evo 9's and SSLs have leather recaros, the se having red stitching. Mr editions have mr floor mats, 6spd transmission, Bilstein struts, bbs wheels, mr shift knob and a plate that says mr on the center console. Also, the mr has more aluminum body panels. If you plan on modding the car, you're better off with a 5spd, however if you can find an mr with a swap then I guess it's the best of both worlds.

also, stock for stock an 8 and a 8mr arent too much differant at all speedwise. it is only how much you actually put in to your car for performance. i think you would enjoy either or.

the only way I'd recommend a evo 9 mr is if you're gonna use it ONLY as a daily driver are going to do the absolute most basic of mods. if you wanna heavily mod or do some track days I would opt for the 5 speed.
