Bought a new Evo .. BREAK IN???
I've heard both sides with "good" reasons. I believe it's in the manual saying keep it under 5000 for at least 600 miles, and a couple of other suggestions. Keep in mind that R & T ran the Evo full speed ahead vs. the STi when it had less than 500 miles on it, but then again, they didn't pay for the Evo!
Yeah, I've heard both sides of the coin myself. I personally subscribe to the "safe" side. Your manual says that Mitsu requests not revving past 5k rpm for first 600 miles. I can't see any motivation as to why they'd tell you that unless they truly belive that. Aside from that, I try to never stay at the same rpms for too long. Change your rpms, and even your gears to lower or increase rpms. I've heard this helps things seat well. Don't hard-brake till your brakes have had the opportunity to wear-in. I've been wondering about oil changing - it seems like most people on this board changed their oil at 1k miles. I'm only at 200 miles myself, so I'm kinda still wondering about that one myself!!
do a search and read some of the vishnu posts on what his dyno saw on EVO's broken in on dinosaur oil vs. synthetic oil.
I'm a glutton for horsepower so I changed to plain old $0.99 a quart pennzoil for 1000 miles and then back to synthetic because you have nothing to lose.
Follow the engine break in for 600 miles, brakes too, then drive it like you stole it. Just my $0.02, it's your car, do what you like.

Ive heard it all... not sure
Ive seen good reason to be hard on it but smoothly not beating on it almost up to the red line for the first 20 miles...\
It seems as tho it helps seat the rings.. If you dont do it in the first 20 miles you loose th opportunity.. there is a link in the newbie forum thats shows good argument for this method.. only that is about motorcycles and 4 strokes.. b ut ive heard it before??

Rob I'm in Melbourne area, just got home from finishing my 600 mile mark. Tomorrow I'll change the oil after that I'm gonna start driving that BEAST the way it was meant to be driven.

Im in Daytona Beach... I pick my car up on Sat... CANT WAIT.. I think so far from what everyone said since im picking the car up like 2 hours away Ill just vary the throttle alot.. I will take it to like 5 grand and let the rpms slow the car down and then ill shift let it cool and do it again... I figure do that like 10 times on my drive home and vary the throttle every few mins.. I should be ok.. Any other suggestions??
