Is the Evo a good daily driver?
Is the Evo a good daily driver?
Hey fellas,
I will be in the market for an 03/04 Evo in a couple months. I was just wondering if the car is difficult to drive/manage around town? I know the car has a very quick steering rack so I'm just afraid that the car will be really hard to control when driving around casually. I like to cruise a lot, not boosting all the time. Also, I've been hearing that the Evo rides punishingly stiff. I am in no way comming from luxury sedans. I am used to and expect a stiff ride in a performance vehicle, but is the car excessively uncomfortable? As a last question, I plan on keeping the car for a while. Do you think the car will be reliable and last? Thanks for the help!

Mine is my only street car and I have no issues with it. I drive in stop and go traffic and its very easy. The ride is stiff but any car with the suspension the Evo has will be that way. It does not beat you all that bad, and the seats are great.
All during the summer/fall of 2003 I was using it as a daily. It's a tightly strung car for a daily. VERY stiff suspension and steering for a daily...tracks all over the place when you get in a grove in the road. Other then that....puts a smile on your face when ya gotta pass someone!!!
It tracks in the grooves because the tires are wide, not a big deal. I use mine everyday, daily driver and it's perfect. It's not worse a ride than my Celica.
You'll grow to love the steering very quickly!

it DOES tramline, but not as hard as other cars i've driven. I remember the 3000 gt vr4 would almost tug the wheel outta my hands. The evo is easy to control. Steering is sharp but you'll like it. BIG-*** turning circle. Ride is firm. depends on how much punishment you can take (or like? i dont know what that means). Gas tank is small. If you do a lot of non highway driving, you'll fill it a lot. And remember, a 4wd manual goes through clutches easier than 2wd. Due to all the grip, instead of tires breaking loose, all that energy will go through the clutch. Make sure you know how to start in 1st gear (DO NOT give it gas, slowly let out clutch--BAD). And once you buy it, you WILL be 'boosting it a lot'.. trust me.

I use it as a daily driver and the ride can be a little stiff but that is expected. Overvall I love driving this car everyday. It is so much fun to drive and you have such control. I would by it again as a daily driver without a second thought
The ride is stiffer than most cars out on the road. Personally, I like it that way because I can feel the road and have more control. That's the only complaint I have about being it a daily driver. I actually look forward to driving it everyday.
I owned a 96 Civic that was supposed to be my daily driver. It sat in the drive every day until I sold it because I always took the Evo instead. I have a 60 mile/2 hour round trip each day including stop/go traffic and I'm not the slightest bit fored with it yet.

Happens to me more and more often. I end up driving my Evo more than the Accord. That's why I feel bad about not having the STi instead because I'd drive the STi to work and Evo for fun.
evo is great daily dirver, i use it everyday.. and race it every weekend. Even with a vishnu stage1, it feels like itll last forever. so id say thumbs up to reliability. As for ride, well its expected that it will be kinda stiff, after all it is on of the best handling cars in the world.. but its not stiff enough.. it will be with jic flta 2's though.
love everything bout my EVO 8 wouldnt trade anything else for it...(except a whole lot of $$$)...but then again...this is my baby and feels great everytime i get in the car, no matter how far i drive....
