My First Mitsubishi / Evolution / Turbo Car. Information Needed

Hi All,

I have just purchased a Mitsubishi Evolution 10 2008 (around 49,000ks) from Japan. It is currently on its way from Japan (should be here in around 6 weeks’ time). I have started to read through forms and contact the local dealer regarding the Evo X.

The translation sheet from Japan was minimal and it seems the car might have a few aftermarket modifications. If I am able to post some pictures up of the car (next day or so) could I please get some feedback to the mods the car might have? From what I can tell / have been told it has a HKS EVC, suspension kit, Sparco steering wheel (which will have to be put back to stock), Cusco LSD, aftermarket AW, aftermarket drivers Recaro seat, aero (front, sides and rear), HKS filter (that might be all).

As I am new to Mitsubishi, Evos and turboed cars any additional information regarding these products would be greatly appreciated (I am really unsure theuse of the HKS EVC and mapping).

Mike

What encouraged you to get a Evo X that is modified as your first turbo car?

Sorry I can't help too much on deciphering using a HKS EVC system.

The thing that makes me wonder is the aftermarket drivers seat. He'd have to be doing some racing to warrant replacing the seats, and even more likely so if he was only worried about the driver's seat. Typically any car that's been raced is suspect as a used car purchase. The evc is probably not something you'll have to tune yourself unless it shows up and isn't tuned, but who installs one and then lets it sit untuned?

A fair question. I'm also not sure that the logic applies for a racing seat in a Japanese evo. I'd consider a bucket to replace my worn out stock seats. He also did the steering wheel. (I'm guessing it needs to go back to stock to keep a insurance required airbag in?)

True enough on the EVC though, it will be tuned for how the car currently sits more than likely.

Opportunity, I have always wanted an Evolution (mainly the Evo 9, almost purchased a stock one earlier in the year).

The seat doesn't have a harness or anything, just a different model of the stock Recaro seat.

In New Zealand if a car is newer than 14 years old and it had air bags originally you cannot legally remove them (the car comes will all stock parts included).

It is true that some EVCs auto tune? The EVC looks to be an older version, as the new one has a colour LCD (or so I think). It's not the Evolution edditon EVC either.

I should probably get the car looked over and checked to make sure its running O.K. I have booked the car in for a full service as I will be driving it 1,000ks home.

From your pics that you posted, I would assumed this car was a race car. Just looking at the undercarriage, it has plates to protect the car from gravel. Since it already your, I too would get it checked out and also see if there are any reputable tuners where you are receiving the car. Have them check out the car too to make sure it is tuned correctly. 1000km is no short distance to have your new to you car fail due to a tune.

Pictures

I have a couple of questions regarding the pictures:
  • The gold cylinder and blue labels look like Ohlins suspension to me (used to seeing on my bikes)?
  • What the is pink HKS rail in front of the engine?
  • Does the exhaust look stock?
  • Anyone know what the aftermarket Recaro drivers seat model number is?
  • I think I can make out a BoV in the engine picture?
Thanks

Yep Ohlins, VERY good suspension.
Pink HKS rail is the fuel rail, also combined with an adjustable fuel pressure regulator(Good!)
Exhaust is aftermarket.
No clue what seat that is.
Looks like the stock metal BOV.

Appears to have a tap in the coolant hose to monitor coolant temps as well.
