Picked up an evo!
Picked up an evo!
No pics yet guys but its a black evo 9, 2006, has 80,000klms on it and in good cond, bought it through a friend for 28,000 AUD. No mods other then a 3inch turbo back pipe and mild tune. Good platform to start off on. Want to weekend drive it and occasional track day.
I'm getting out of road bikes and wanting something that is more sharing with my son so I couldnt go past this for fun.
Never owned a performance car and have noticed on my trip home how this things attracts cops, got tailed on the way back, I think he was hoping I was going to give it some and do a quick hit on me. So I'm a hardened biker and up to all those tricks of dropping back through the traffic and tailing you etc.
One thing I have noticed, this car is like a bull terrior on roids, you feel like you have muscles hanging off you as you drive along and get all the looks from guys in trucks and other wannabee dweeb speed kids. I love this thing even my wife says she can understand why i got this, its quirky and original and I havnt seen an evo 9 for months on the road on the way to work.
So a couple of thing to kick me off, it needs oil and I noticed the favoured oil here is Amsoil z bolt, this oil in my state has one outlet 50 miles away, so thats out, the other one i see is T6 and Red Line, which is hard ot get anyway.
So for my conveniance I've got M1 0-40 and Castrol Edge 10-60 at my local shop. So on paper the higher castrol rating is suppose to be for higher temp countries and the lower ratings is for colder? Have I got this right?
So in theory castrol edge would be better suited for Australian conditions?
Next tyres, it needs some, does anyone have a thread i can read for the best soft road to track, cross over tyres? I dont want to buy semi slicks yet until i get another set of rims to put them on really want some soft road tyres for now, as this is only a weekender, not day ride
thanks hero's and its good to be part of the club

I assume Zbolt is the same as Zrod here? if so, it is a great oil.
Of those others you posted, neither is the correct weight. you got a great car at a reasonable price if it's almost stock. Please, take the time/drive and get the proper weight oil for your engine. I almost want to say you'd be better off running an off brand oil that's the correct weight, than vice versa. A lot of guys buy their oil in bulk (like AMSoil in cases) so they have tons at home.
welcome to the community, there's nothing like the Evo!

Thats pretty cool man. I just bought a stock 06 here in the states and after converting your numbers to miles and dollars we have almost identical figures. 49.7k vs 49.6k miles and a 50 dollar difference. Welcome to the club!
You're right the manual says 10w30, i've been doing my research and i went down to my local spares shop and i couldnt find a synth 10w30 oil at all...nothing, the closest i found was Mobile 1 5w-30 so i bought 2. Now I'm thinking I just made a mistake, I'm not ready many good reviews of this oil, no zinc additives, watered down, bad for journal turbo's, not as good as the old M1 etc etc. Not sure wether to take the stuff back or just use it in my other DDs and look for better oil, maybe some penrite 10/10ths
