New to a evo VIII
New to a evo VIII
So I just bought a evo 8 pretty virgin car with minor mods so far it has up/down pipe evo 9 turbo and full borla exhaust now I gotten on the car and can tell it's not tuned because it falls on its face hard at about 5500 and that's brake boosting at 4K 15psi peaking 23 so here's my thing I wanna max out this motor on stock block and I've been reading here and everyone seems to run s2 cams with Bc or kelford Spring so after that what other supporting mods do I need still has stock clutch too any tips it's a daily/racecar lol
you gotta be specific with your power goals, are you gonna stay on stock turbo? is e85 available around? the following are usually done
1.walbro 255 drop in fuel pump
2.1000+cc injectors (for e85)
3.if you go with s2's go with HSC beehives and retainers
4.good 3" intercooler (the more efficient you cool the charge the less knock you'll encounter and the more timing you can run
5. obviously a good exhaust, dump is good for preventing boost spikes.
6. Grimspeed 3 port boost controller (so you can have a dual map tune on pump AND e85
7.I would go with a silicone air incution pipe such as the samco one ir MAPerformance one (same thing just cheaper) and a good filter, I heard the "green filter" is supposed to be the best dry filter on the market, you'd also need a 4.5" adaptor for the filter which is like 15 bucks. I like silicone hoses because of the reduced heat soak from the engine heat.
8.Last but not least an AFR gague and a boost gague and finally a tune. with e85 and cams with the 9 turbo and a GOOD tune, you can expect to see north of 400whp and torque. the stock 9 turbo is a quick nastly little fella. anyway, hope this helped

DO NOT run BC cams whatever you do
thats from ALOT of people on the forums, however, gsc power division is the best on the market. and one last thing. even though it is not a necesity with the stock turbo and those mods, iwould also recommend a KIGGLY hla, helps keep the oil in the pan and not fludded in the head (4G63's tend to do that)

Yea I already got the boost gauge in and reading I have a PLX wideband just need to remove the old o2 and place the new one have the grimmspeed 3port waiting till I get it tuned to hook it up read it needs to be adjust when installed just order full ETS 3fmic I run e85 on my 5.0 so there's plenty e85 but for the turbo I wanna stick to the current evo 9 on it spools very quickly and response really well
Yeah so on the 3 port, the tuner needs to bring diwn the Wastegate duty cycle about 30% all across because its a much quicker solenoid compared to the factory 2 port.
As far as intercooler goes, thats the best choice, I myself am about to order their 3.5" ic and short route piping very soon, I have an FP red, gotta make sure the charge air is cooled sufficiently or else on california gas you get knock really fast.
yes the stock turbo is great, and e85 is great also, goodluck with your build bud, keep me posted.

haha yes! Forced Performance is known for making stock fram bolt on turbos, well atleast they used to be, they used the MHI twin scroll housings that would bolt up to your stock downpipe, now they have a different turbine housing but you can still find the old ones on here and stuff, The green is like the 9 turbo, but a little more up top, obviously they offer a ball bearing version which increases spool 15%, on the already fast spooling 9 turbo. then the red and black.

Ah I figured it was that so clutch wise what is a good one I live in Houston so we get a lot of traffic and we don't want something that's gonna break the leg lol but gonna be able to take my WOT shifts
id love to help you with that but i honestly don't know too much about what clutch is good and what not, even though i have done a clutch on an 06 evo before, which is a big pain if you dont have a shop lift
. but if i had to give you a name, id say ACT, since they have the most popular single disks and people seem to run them upwards of 400's without a problem, anything over 450 (which i doubt you will achieve with the stock turbo) you would need to get advice from somebody that knows more about them than i

So take notes of everything that has been said and then read up and understand what each mod does, that's all part of owning these cars, there's a whole new world of modding to discover now, don't be in a rush, you have a good baseline to work from
Yea I been modding cars for years but I'm not familiar with this car at all so idk what are good with these cars and not cause this ain't no Honda that I can just slap shot in and blow up the motor lol
When I joined over a year ago, this stuff was like another language to me, I found reading the mod and project threads where you started to see patterns show up in popular bolt ons, plus the experienced guys have large mod signatures in their posts also, Ron above has some good points, also maybe do a few track days to get used to your car as it is and you'll find more pleasure in modding later and feeling the changes as you get more advanced
