Evo8 or 350Z
Evo8 or 350Z
Im trying to decide between a Evo8 or a 350Z. I was hoping someone could give me information on how fast i could make the Evo8 while still using it as a daily driver. The highest octane gas I have around here is 93. Any info would be much appreciated. Please email me at Clipsed405@aol.com. Thank You.
EVO VIII, more tunner freindly and well designed car, not to expensive to tune. 350Z very expensive to tune, looks like does not want to respond to performance parts.
My suggestion ----- EVO VIII --------

An EVO is definetly better for daily driving for a couple of reasons, the EVO is much more comfortable than a 350z, especially on longer commutes or trips, also the 350 z is rear drive while the evo is all wheel. I really like the 350z alot, but it's just not as practical for everyday use i feel. For mods to make the Evo faster there are a bunch start off with the basics like a full exhaust system (down pipe, high flow cat and exhaust) then from there you can get an ecu reflash and and up the boost a bit while still using pump gas. Hope this helps
that's kinda funny.. i was torn between the same 2 cars when i was trying to decide. ovbiously i bought the evo instead of the 350Z but now, 3 months down the road i wish i would've bought the 350. i think it's just because i came from a nissan maxima which had some luxury to it and a smooth ride. i did drive both cars and the evo is A LOT more fun and more powerful. you could leave the evo stock and probably still have it beat whatever you would do to the 350...
i guess all i'm saying is that you have to do is decide between luxury and sportyness, and rough riding but fast as ****.
just my 0.02

The EVO's ride will be pretty stiff but okay for daily driving. I have 23k miles daily driven for 11 months and no complaints.
Also, there are people running mid 11's at the track and still daily driving their cars. Hopefully that answers your question about speed and daily driving

You can get 350 whp, with a supercharger strapped to the Z. In my opinion, when you add the cost of a new clutch 1K+ with install, a blown transfer case 3K+ with install the cost of stripping your performance parts from the evo for warranty work, that Mitsu will probably deny anyway. I'd go as far as to say it's probably cheaper to make a 350Z faster than an EVO, if you are lucky enough to get a total POS evo like I did. If I was to do it again, I wouldn't even have the evo as a consideration on my list. And I would get the G35 coupe instead of the 350.

Evo - $2000 in mods = high 11 to low 12 sec.
350Z - add twin turbo $6k+ = 11 sec car

If I remember correctly, the HKS twin turbo 350Z runs faster than high 12's. Or I could be thinking about the 350Z with the nos that blew up the motor running 11's.
Bottom line spend $35k and have a 11's Evo daily driver or spend $45k to $50k to get the 350Z to do the same.

It depends on what you want. Don’t think you can just buy an Evo, spend some money on performance parts and expect to dominate at the drag strip. The Evo is NOT a dragster no matter how many people try to make it one. If you do want to drag race it regularly be prepared to spend thousands more for replacement (read non-performance) parts. If all you want to do is show off at the drag strip I’ll recommend you spend your money on a Supra TT or an old muscle car and some slicks.
But consider this; according to Road and Track the Evo will take a 350Z from 0-60, out slalom an Acura NSX, and embarrass the RX-8 around a race track -- and that’s just off the showroom floor. Spending a few grand and some of your spare time will make the Evo even harder to catch.
IMHO, unless you want to spend $50k or more on a semi-exotic you just can’t touch the Evo’s all-around performance.
