Hello from the 661

Hello everyone, just wanted to introduce myself and the IX MR I recently picked up. I had specifically been looking for an 06 MR SE, and finally found one. It's under 90k miles, interior is mint, exterior is well taken care of, and the only mods were a downpipe, exhaust, fuel pump, and tune. He then took off the DP / exh due to a state ref ticket. Tranny shifts amazing still.

UNFORTUNATELY, due to time constraints I was not able to perform a compression and leakdown test, but figured since the car drove great on the test drive, "what's the worst that I'd have to do to fix something?" Well... this I suppose

I changed out the oil and noticed copper glitter all over... great. So warmed her back up and performed a compression check. 145, 75, 140, 135

The seller mentioned he had "someone" tune his car, I wonder if he leaned it out too much? I tore the block apart and there's no blown ringlands, no pits or cracks in the cylinders, there's still even what looks like crosshatch. Rod bearings looked ok considering mileage, some scratches. Main bearings also had a couple scratches, thrust bearings looked ok, then got to the balance shaft bearings. They have what looks like a smooth groove running "across" the bearing from end to end. Kind of looks like the balance shaft was walking back and forth.

Oh well, lesson learned. Compression check BEFORE you buy the car, not after. Actually though I'm kind of glad I didn't, because I wouldn't have bought the car. And besides the motor needing a refresh, the rest of the car is pristine.

So the bad news is, the only time I got to drive her was on the test drive, and on the way home from where I picked her up (she drove great all the way home, didn't notice anything weird), the GOOD news is, an impromptu build is now underway and RRE has the longblock for a nice 400whp daily driver build

I didn't get to take any good pictures considering it stayed in the garage since noticing the glitter, but I'll take plenty more along the way of the build

Wow Dan, Thanks for posting & that was quite the story

Hey, we are local & I have used RRE for a few things. Great to have on board here on EvOM.

Make yourself at home here, search & post often

BTW, the car looks great & once the motor is done, its going to be "all good"!

Welcome Dan. Interesting story. Most people would be so mad and not see the opportunity they have in front of them. Of course every situation is different, but most things have a positive side. Keep us up to date on your build. Good luck.

Will do

I've just been researching nonstop and trying to learn as much as I can. I feel like I'm taking a crash course of knowledge worth of about 15 years of evo tuning. I come from the Honda scene so a lot of it is new, specifically how you can "mod" the ecu to do whatever you want, I can't quite grasp that yet. I'm used to either "it's either Hondata, or AEM"

I have a 400whp integra if you guys want me to ***** that out on here as well
