Evo 8's Engine

How many miles does the engine withstand before having problems. I heard the STi 2.5L's engine is better.

it is all up to the owner of that car. U heard the 2.5L T is better? man.....ppl hear too much junks nowaday. There are so many aspects in this and since both cars are so new here in the US. it is hard to tell which one is ultimately the better. I'm glad I own of them. Peace...

Well, it mainly depends on the driver, proper break in, and changing all the fluids often. The 4G63 has been around for 14 years, and if you go on ebay you can find many 130,000+ mile DSM's, once saw one with about 220K, so you get the point...The subaru 2.5 T is a brand new engine, and reliablity hasn't been a plus with Subaru's. I would expect the Mitsu engine to last longer, but it depends on the 3 points I mentioned above.

My '90 GSX had 188K before it finally popped the headgasket due to overheating. The radiator had a crack and I didn't much care to replace it. It would have run well past 200K had I actually spent money on the car for things other than oil/gas.

Being an owner of both 4G63 and EJ series motors, I think the 4G63 is much more durable even in modified form.

The 4G63 has been around longer than 14 years. It existed before the first EVO, it just wasn't tuned as well...

yep, the 4G63 is definately a proven engine..on the other hand, the new 2.5L that the US STi's have is it's first year out..ever. It may be a good engine, but there are problems with exhaust temperatures and other problems..
