If you're serious about buying then why are you worried that they will run a credit check? Not really serious maybe?
And I'm not going to get serious without a test-drive. A test-drive could get me from zero to serious in about ten minutes. Now I'm thinking about other cars because this dealer is not someone I want to deal with when I need warranty work done or if, God forbid, the car's a lemon.

I didnt have a problem with letting them do a credit check before a test drive. If that's as far as it goes. No talks of money yet, but sure.. make sure I am capable of buying it. Considering some of the problems with clutches and transfer cases.. I could see a dealer not wanting to let 'kids' go for joy rides. Then they have to sell the car to someone who will bring it back with warranty problems. Although it's 'only' a mitsubishi.. it's still a car made in relatively small numbers. And the dealer still only has a few. Like I said, it didnt really bother me to start a credit check before doing a test drive. In fact, the credit check wasnt even complete when I went for my test drive. I think they say that to weed out the joy-riders. If you even agree to it, and give them the info, maybe they will know you're serious and let you test it out. They need to do a credit check before you buy it anyways, right?

Yeah, I ran into the same thing last year. Me and a buddy went to check out some Evos in Chicago burbs, and basically ran into the "we will only let you drive this car after you've bought it" attitude at several dealerships. For me, spending $30K+ with no test drive is ludicrous... Got a test drive at a central IL dealership (they kept a demo around) in mid November, and then finally ended up getting my brand-spanking new Evo two weeks ago at the same dealership.

One thing I will say is that I wasn't really all that impressed with my test drive ... probably cuz I didn't push the car past 5K rpms and didn't really have any decent, twisty roads to drive on. However, now that I've been in the saddle for a couple of weeks all I can say is that this car has far exceeded all of my expectations ... especially when it comes to handling and stability.

I don't give two lumpy turds about the dealer or the salesman! Do you want to sell me a car or not?

The dealer didn't want just a credit check, he wanted a deal signed on the contigency of a test-drive.
You don't give two of yourself about the dealer or salesman? Anyone who isn't interested enough to at least be qualified as a legitimate buyer isn't interested enough to get to abuse my car and waste my time. Too bad, tough you know what. Adjust your attitude from your totally selfish mindset. You'll get further in life.

on a whole makes crappy vehicles, and I would never consider anything other than the EVO.

And I also don’t give a crap about a car salesmen, I’m the customer and this is a lot of money we’re talking about.

It’s called a DEMO J@CK@$$ !
You don't give yourself about a car salesman huh. Same worthless selfish mindset as the other juvenile. Grow up and learn that you aren't the only one on the planet and also not the most important one.

Well, I got my silver one with 84 miles on it, for 29500, not including tags etc. It also came withe wind deflectors all around, new shift knob, an sport pedals. Had to travel 1 an half hours to get it, but well worth it. I was harrassed by a local dealer that had a red one w/ 300 miles on it, they were going for 400 above invoice. I almost got a white evo for 200 above invoice, but that was out of western texas. That's been my luck. I am 17, I told them upfront, I can write a check in 5 minutes for invoice, lets play numbers. I was able to get 2 test drives quite spirited. One at the harsh dealer, and the one I had to travel with my dad to.
