Which car is right for ME?
Which car is right for ME?
Hey, im new to the import scene. Had a Camaro SS but sold it due to some problems I just didnt want to deal with anymore. Anyways...
Im sure that this issue has been talked about before. I am planning on getting either a Evo8 or a *dun dun dunnnn* WRX STi. I have driven both and really like both. I like the STi for it's better low-end, better interior and seems to have a nicer ride. The Evo8 I think has a little better styling (subjective tho) and go-kart like handling.
Now, I have a friend with an 03 Cobra with a KenneBell SC and some other goodies and is making around 600RWHP. He's still figuring out how to get the power to the ground but seems to be getting close...he ran an 11.21 a few weeks ago and says he's been getting better every day. Now, the track isnt a very regular event for us. We'll go maybe 8-10 times throughout the year. We are mature about our cars on the street. Of course with these kinds of cars, you're going to want to punch it every now and then. Maybe even hit up some of the street racing scene for a little bit.
So basically what I want is something that I can drive around town and then punch every once in a while and at least keep up with my friend's Cobra. Which car do you think would be better for this as far as aftermarket availability, bang for the buck and engine potential. Neither of us will having racing fuel running thru our lines very regularly so that is something to keep in mind...
Thanks for any info guys...

I dont think either car is the way to go if you want to keep up with the Cobra in a straight line. These are not drag cars, and running them in that manner will cause a major toll on the clutch / drivetrain.
With that said, if you still have your heart set on either car, Id say go with the Evo. Seems that the Subie Sti is quite a handful to get horsepower out of reliably. The Evo has much potential in the aftermarket.

On a seriously note, if your looking for an import car to hang with a kb 03 cobra from rolls, you better go look at a supra. These cars werent meant for highway rolls. If you want to road race, get an evo. If you plan to keep the car stock and want something liveable on the road, get an sti.
You won't be able to keep up with the Cobra, at least not reliably, with either car. You're giving up a lot of displacement and losing a lot of power in the AWD system (versus the live axle RWD Cobra).
A friend of mine has a kenne bell equipped Cobra, and while it's stupid-fast, it's not a car I'd want to drive around regularly. If you want something liveable and still want to keep up with your friend's Cobra, you really need to be looking at something along the lines of a Supra, Z06 or supercharged C5 corvette, or if you had the coin maybe a Skyline.

You and your friend need to go out to a road course.. Then see who is chasing who... Your going to spend a fortune trying to repair and modify an Evo or STi to keep up with an Cobra in a straight line. either drag racing or screwing around on the public roads.
