EVO vs. WRX STi ???
EVO vs. WRX STi ???
OK, I have decided that I am getting either a WRX STi, EVO VIII, or EVO RS in the next 2 weeks. I am keeping my heavily modded 350Z for racetrack use.
So why should I get an EVO instead of an STi?

Seriously though -- you could be happy with either car because they both provide you with pretty much the same package. It's the minor details that will make the difference, so you will probably need to check each one out for yourself and then make a decision.
The STI will probably be better as a daily driver. The ride is less harsh and it comes with cruise control (the EVO does not).
On the other hand, the EVO is more of a true "driver's car" than the STI is. Handling is a bit better and the STI has noticeably more understeer. Most people won't notice the difference though.
Do you want the convenience of a rear wiper? The EVO is your car if that is a priority.
Maybe you like the looks of one over the other?
Don't want to deal with the hassle of installing your own stereo (or don't want to pay extra for a dealer installed one)? Then the EVO is your car. Do you hate car stereos? Go with the STI.
More comfortable with a "proven" engine? Get an EVO. Like displacement? Get an STI.
You won't go wrong either way. You may find yourself sitting down and making a pro/con list...
Cabo
Not drags. Otherwise, all of the above, I have a very high tolerance for driving race-prepped cars on the street, My 350Z has a rally clutch and superlight 8 lb. flywheel, plus a radical limited slip diff. on the hardest race setting. I drive the Z on the street.
EVO or STi will be my daily driver, and I wll probably do an occasional racetrack day in it. Don't know if I will mod it, but I want that option, so RS looks good.

RS looks bad for daily driving . base rs has no ac, no pwr windows or locks ,radio , carpeting, sound deadening material, HID's are gone, and it just looks cheap with un painted door handles and side mirrors, no wing either ( maybe thats a plus if you wanted it low keyed.)
I'd get the reg. EVO for daily driving . you won't miss the front limmited slip on the rs since youll only race it occasionally. I have 15k miles on mine and it serves my purposes well as a Daily Driver and more. Mod it out and it has endless proven potential . it gets addictive though, good thing.

The EVO and STi are both great cars. I owned a WRX prior to my EVO and drove an STi twice before I made my purchase. Here is my opinion on STi vs. EVO...
EVO... Better handling, SIGNIFICANTLY better potential for mods and high HP (even on stock turbo), the front seats go back further, and you at least get a base stereo for the price.
STi... Nice 6 speed, faster stock but less easy to mod, STi owners are experiencing "boost flutter" when making modifications to the exhaust, stock turbo has limited potential, stock motor cannot handle high HP without significant investment, NO STEREO, ride is more compliant for street use, top mount intercooler not as efficient as FMIC, front seats go back less than EVO and even less useable room in the backseats.
