Talking Evo Rs!!!

I own a 2003 Nissan 350Z Track model -- heavily modded for track use, but still street legal, and a 2004 Audi S4 quattro sedan (B6) -- bone stock but recently in a bad collision.

I went to my local Mitsubishi dealer, test drove an EVO VIII, and saw the new EVO RS. I LOVE the RS!!!

They stripped the VIII of sound deadening material, power windows and door locks, rear wing, ABS, etc., saving about 150 lbs. They added a front helical differential, and an aluminum rear brace that weighs less than 1 lb. The base RS has no air conditioning either, but all the cars coming to SoCal have A/C because our summers are so hot (and I want A/C).

Motor Trend tested the RS at 4.4 seconds from 0 - 60 mph!!! This car stickers at $27,000 -- the same price as a 350Z Base model. The EVO RS will run circles around the 350Z. Is the RS ugly? YOU BET! But I don't care. I WANT ONE.

OK, so relegate me to the Newbie forum. But you aren't going to get many 350Z owners to admit the EVO is better. LMFAO

I got one. came with A/C paid $27,394 plus tax. I already installed a oem factory take out radio. my salesman sold it to me. he owns a 03. I had no Idea that it was that quick. in order to get that 0-60 time I am afraid that I will need a clutch so it will just read about it.

it doesn't save 150lbs, unless you compare to the regular EVO WITH The sunroof. . . its more like 80-90 lbs or so.

I also saw the EVO VIII with sunroof/leather/subwoofer package when I was at the dealer. Seems like a contradiction in terms. The RS is what the EVO is all about.

why is it a contradiction in terms? not all evo owners race.. case in point me.. i leave the racing to my cobra. I bought the EVO becuase i love the history and the car, but never intend on racing it.

Rich,

RS is a good choice for a track car. Have you been in an Evo at the track yet as a driver or passenger?

No. I track my Z about once a month, and have seen lots of EVOs and STi's out there, but never rode in one. I am a terrible passenger on a racetrack. It makes me sick to my stomach. I need to be in control of the car at high speed. LOL

Thought you were someone I met at Street of Willow back in Feb. His name was Rich with a nicely modded white Z. He came along for a couple of laps and got car sick.

The RS comes with A/C standard. You don't have to add it as an option.

That may be good or bad, depending upon how you look at it

you gotta have a/c in SoCal in the summer. deleting it does save significant weight, but that's one trade off i won't make
