Picked up an '04 silver Evo yesterday

Hey guys. Just wanted to introduce myself. My name's Dan McCormack. I picked up a silver '04 Evo yesterday, after lusting after this car for years. And I'm happy I've wanted one since before they came to the US, but was never in a position to own a new car, much less one in this price range. In the past I've owned about 8 different mk2 and mk3 supras. I got my white '90 Supra up to 364 rwhp, 406 rwtq, but those cars are so damn heavy that even with that power I could only run a 13.4 @ 107. My last project was a 7M-GTE (engine from a mk3 turbo supra) swapped into an '83 mk2 supra, but the wiring was a pain and I couldn't get it to run right, so finally I sold it and bought this Evo. Much better.

Looking around the forums, I'm glad to see that there seems to be an overall tendency towards performance rather than appearance here. Before my Supras I had a Camry, and the Camry community is 98% interested in appearance mods only. Trying to find performance modification information in that kind of community can get... frustrating.

I know you've all seen tons of perfectly stock evos, but bear with a new father as he posts a pic of his new baby

More here, but it's nothing you haven't seen before: http://binrock.net/cowgod/photos/index.php?rid=380

Anyways, just wanted to say hi.

Congrats on the Evo... with a few good mods you'll be beating that time no problem!

Hehe, yeah, I bought the car with the intention of leaving it stock (the Supra was unreliable as hell, and it has been my dream to own a car that was fast AND reliable, i.e. stock). But I've had the car a day and already I'm trying to convince myself that a few small mods wouldn't be bad... A boost gauge and an exhaust don't hurt reliability... And as long as I'm doing a boost gauge, I could install the Profec-B I've still got from my Supra... And thus begins the slippery slope

well the engine can take 500whp on stock internals so things like downpipes, boost controlers and cams won't hurt reliability at all

No, didn't get the sun and sound package. I paid $35,000, but I'm in Puerto Rico, and all cars here are subject to an import tax based on the value of the car. It sucks, but there's no way around it - cars are just all more expensive here. With cars costing around $60-70k, the tax can be something like $12-15k. In this case the import tax was about $6200, so the car was about $28k + $6.2k import tax. They wanted $35,195 but I could only get them down to $35,000 even. It sucks that in the US, I could have bought an MR for less than that, but that's the way it goes. BTW, they wanted $42k for the MRs coming in October (they are getting two in September that are already sold, and two in October that I'd have needed to put a deposit down on). It was a tough decision but finally I decided the $35k was enough of a stretch for me - 42 was just too far out of my price range. Plus having to wait yet another 4 months... I'm very happy enjoying my standard Evo right now, and maybe using that $7k on mods in the future It'd be awesome to have a 6spd, but the rest of the stuff, cool though it is on paper, wouldn't really make itself apparent in my daily life. So I can deal. Probably.
