EVO RS vs EVO
EVO RS vs EVO
ive been in and out of alot of cars and ive decided why bother with the little ricers so ive thought about it and decided to get myself an evo8. when i went to the mitsubishi site to check out the general format of the evo8, it offered an RS model that i never really knew existed. from reading there arent too many differences that i could really see except for the info on the differentials and that the fact the RS model comes with no spoiler. am i missing something because theres a big price gap between the 2. so with ur help from the community maybe you guys and gals could fill in some of the facts.... like which one would i better off with ..... Pros vs Cons..
thx.

RS = optional A/C, no power windows/doors, no radio, no sound deadening material (much lighter for enthusiasts). it's a ghetto EVO, but good for the track.
I have an RS. A/C is not an option, it is standard equipment. No power doors/locks, no sound deadening, no radio, no trim in the on the sides of the inside of the trunk, no wing. It only comes in white and red. Comes with a limited slip diff in the front instead of the open diff in regular evo. Comes with a stiffening bar in the trunk not found in the regular evo. Really not alot of difference between the two. Some would call it ghetto. Some would call it lighter, faster, cheaper.
RS has no fog lights , true. Yet the projector bulb housing is present. You can buy an HID kit for 300 bucks and wire it up to the space where the fog lamps are supposed to be. I am going to see how that looks. I is the easiest way since the fog lights are the inner lights and easy to access. You dont have to take off the bumper and take out the headlights to install them this way. Also you can get power door locks installed for about 300 bucks and a radio and speakers for another 4 or 5 hundred bucks. So you get most things back for a little over a G. Power windows and the wingare the least important to me.
I had a regular Evo prior to my RS...there is not a huge difference, but you can feel the weight and limited slip. I love the simplicity and most people on the street aren't sure what to make of it...espeically when it takes off from the light
If you are looking for the best deal you can still get a leftover 03 for deal (or an 04 sti for the matter). I like the interior of the RS, never cared for the fuzzies in my other evo.

RS = Really Stripped
RS = Really Stripped thats all there is too it. Its lighter because it doesn't have many of the nice features that the Evo has 0-60 and quarter mile are slightly faster but not enough to justify loosing HID's, stereo, power windows, power door locks, Sunroof, foglights, unfinished trunk, and no Wing. The stabalizer bar you can pick up from the dealer for just over 100 bucks or have someone make it for like half that.
My RS was quite in stock form, just little gear noise.
Just installed a catback, maybe a little more exhaust sound prutruding.
RS is great for daily drive, that's what I bought it for and no regrets!!!
And why not when you can buy it for $25k - cheaper than Accord!

EVO RS To Go...
I just got the '04 Evo RS and test drove both the VIII and the RS. Hard to tell the interior noise difference even though lack of sound deadening in the RS. Comes standard with a/c, could careless for the other whimpy, lazy stuff that has made us into a nation of couch patotoes, remote controls, mickey Dees, SUVs and increased butt size...
I owned a 2003 Evo for just over a year until it was totaled last month. I picked up a 2004 Evo RS the other day for $25,300 before tax/title/license. Here are the things I have noticed that are different. I think this is pretty much all of them.
The RS has:
No ABS.
No HID head lamps.
Black door handles and mirrors.
No radio or speakers (but it is wired for both).
No power door locks.
No power windows.
No power mirrors.
No in-cab headlamp adjust.
No fog lights.
No fuzz on the doors, simply plastic.
No vanity mirrors.
No map lights.
No adjustable intermittent windshield wipers.
No armrest.
No shiny radio surround (it's flat black like the rest of the dash).
No leather wrap on the hand brake.
No chrome button on the hand brake.
No sunroof.
No rear wing.
No rear windshield wiper.
No carpet covering the sides of the trunk.
Front helical LSD.
I love the RS. It's like an Evo in it's purest form. Lighter, faster, simpler. I remember that I posted on here once about possibly trading in my 2003 Evo if they decided bringing over the RS. It's strange how things happen, but I am totally happy with the RS.
