152 mph Top Speed?!!

yo guys. haven't posted in a long time. a couple nights ago, i was coming home with a friend in the evo. it was around 2 am, cruising on the turnpike with nobody else on the road. from 65 mph, decided to punch it. i asked my friend how fast i was going and he says 152, so i keep on it. i look down a few seconds later and see that im not going any faster. tachometer is at about 6500. all the way to the floor, i was stuck. stayed there for maybe half a minute. who says our cars suck at high end??!! it was exhilerating and handled with ease. i honestly wasn't scared at all. i was disappointed i couldn't go any faster! going off to college, so had to do one crazy thing b4 i go. i just thought it was strange since i remember seeing that some of u guys have reached higher speeds. lastly, is it normal that the intercooler spray light came on after i finished my high speed jaunt? went away after using the switch. just felt like sharing. awesome experience.

get an ECU reflash through (dynoflash, Vishnu, ect...) and you will be able to go faster till you hit redline at 7800 (w/reflash), might be in the +- 170mph range. With the new MR and a 6 speed gear box, you will see new speeds in sixth gear.

AFAIK the car is drag limited at that speed, thusly you would need to increase your power (with more than just an aftermarket reflash) to achieve higher speeds.

The MR 6th gear will likely not provide much more speed being that the car doesn't have much more power to overcome that taller gear.

I bet the 6th is just as tall as the stocker. Look at the STI, our 5th is taller then thier 6th.

The way I see it longer gears in a 5speed are better foor the street and highway, less time shifting and more time in gear.

6 gears are better for a low speed track with many niche gears needed for certain speeds to not get caught inbetween gears.

Me, I would like a taller 1st gear in the Evo and then make teh 5th shorter and then add a REALLY tall 6th, like geared for 220MPH so it'll be good gas milage.

He still would have went faster with some kind of flash. The MR 6th ratio will probably be close to our 5th ratio, just a touch taller therefore making it faster top end. just my .02

I hate really tall 6th gears. Its useless. Like the T56's in the Viper/Vette/F-bod, a really tall 6th almost ruined the experience, for me at least. There is nothing like six tight gears. The best example would be the M3/M5 gearboxes...again just my .02

well as most people know on this board i am obsessed with top speed in my evo...it is such a good challenge for this car....i have a fairly modified vehicle....and have managed to hit 176mph on gps....but that was bouncing off the 7600 redline....car felt like it was still pulling...but at that speed the front end feels light and so does steering.....since that last run i have installed the vishnu rear aero undertray.....and am currently trying to come up on some fromt canards....in attempt to reduce drag in the rear and stabilize the front end.

It's all about the right conditions at the right time too. Maybe there was a pinch more wind that night.

Youd Be amazed what 500WHP and a 9000 RPM redline would do for your top speed.

As long as you aren't endangering others, this is awesome. Just don't kill yourselves men. I think that I had my evo a little over 140, and it was a dog up at those speeds. The fastest that I had my WRX was up in the 160 range.

Need more HP...stock EVO is kind of a dog! I have my HP on order.

Should only go about 150 top speed on the stock car by power and aerodynamic resistance factors. I have not done it but it makes sense. Should be at about 7K in 5th gear according to how the gears are set up. You can go faster. It is 10 mph for evry 500rpm. When the top speed of 157 mph was listed they took into account the stock rev limiter @7.4-7.6K?. To go any faster you got to get rid of that rev limiter is the cheapest way. Then you can go faster. Be warned that you can blow up your motor if you try to go over 150+ mph for long periods of time.
