HELP ME MAKE A DECISION - EVO VIII or RS
HELP ME MAKE A DECISION - EVO VIII or RS
Here are the two options in front of me:
'04 EVO RS with a/c for $25875 + Tax, tag etc...
'04 EVO VIII with all options "Infinity Package", leather etc... $30875 + Tax, tag etc...
I like the EVO without the Wing that is why I like the RS but also I like the options...
Are the options worth $6000?
Thoughts would be appreciated...

For me the 6k was definitely NOT worth it. You can put a very nice stereo in the RS rather cheaply. Do you want a sunroof? I didn't; I live in chicago. Same for the leather; it gets really cold in the winter. Do want to get noticed? The RS turns a lot fewer [highway patrol] heads with the wingless trunk lid.
So it comes down to, how much are power locks, windows, and mirrors worth to ya?
The front LSD isn't the biggest thing in the world, but I did find that it cuts down on understeer (everybody's favorite complaint) a little.
Also, are you a good/alert driver? The RS has no anti-lock brakes.

Well I just got into my 04 Evo VIII RS! And my friends are drooling all over it. My reason simply put : Track Car nothing else but can also be used a daily driver. I use it to go back and forth to work, eventually though I want to get some piece of S!@% to conserve the Evo for the local street use and track time.
The Rs does come with A/C Standard! No radio, hids, sound insulation, etc, etc but I personnaly don't think that it's worth it to pay 6k more for all that crap. Yeah it's nice to but for about 2k or less you can have your own setup. I did it just take a look at my garage. I installed a Kenwood System with 9 speakers in 7 locations with a 12 inch Preamped Tube, Viper Alarm with Power Door locks added "motor's were added to each door, addtional cost approx. $75.00 per door" There is also a package called "The Urban Jungle Package" which restores the power windows, locks and mirror's. I have the dealer looking into it, they never knew it existed. It's ultimately your choice of how much time your willing to spend on your Evo of choice. If you want it all at once then pay that what $30k plus tags, title, etc, etc.. or Get an RS for under 27k and install things at your own pace and with your own taste!
Only thing I do have to say is that the dealer's gonna try to push you into the Evo 8 in stock so as to avoid of having to find an RS, which is going to be hard to find. There are only about 700 of them in the states from what I heard and read!
And if you find one there gonna try to push the price up and maybe even hit with the transporting cost. Mine came from Mass. somewhere and I got lucky with my deal.
Well I hope my info was helpful and just do what you think is going to be the best choice for you, research and even look at a few dealer's to see whose gonna work with you..

I guess if you can deal with not having all that "crap" on your car, get the RS. Otherwise, if you want a car with more creature features up front, get the VIII.

No the urban jungle package never actually appeared, so it's not available.
EDIT: to be more precise: They were going to have such a package, but pulled it before the RS was released (and updated their webpage to reflect that). A/C then became standard equipment on the RS, but the rest of the stuff isn't available.

I love HID's and the wing. The Wing is the trademark of the EVO imo.
Here's what I would do.. Buy the RS and swap out parts with the EVO parts you want, and omit the ones you don't. Use the extra bread for some go-fast mods, and guess what....you have one bad-*** EVO/RS hybrid that hauls *****.

good choice.
with the money I saved it went right into mods and a better stereo than that infinity system.
the only hassle is getting all 4 doors wired up for power door locks when hooking up an alarm.
but 100% worth any hassle. front LSD is awesome too.
