I think that the 1-2 grind is caused by the clutch delay. Mitsubishi built in a clutch delay to prevent "hard shifting" into gears at high RPM. I can completely avoid the 1-2 grind by just running 1st to 6k-6.5k, clutch in pull into second firmly. Not trying to quick shift

MRs will probally still the the clutch delay

Clutch delay? Are you talking about the restrictor pill? Mine has long since been removed, but I still get the 1-2 grind if I try to shift too quickly from 1-2 @ 6500+rpms... I'm guessing it's due to the triple synchro on 1st and 2nd gear.

My shifting feels about the same as the Eclipse GST, but a little better. I am sure I will get some flames for this. I dont have the 1-2 shift problem. Sometimes going into third. Are you guys that are having this problem speed shifting your car? I ask because I drive my car hard through turns, but rarely put it in the situation where I am racing head to head down a straight line. However, I will admit, the tranny does need some work, but the car is still worth every penny, used or new!

Sorry OFF TOPIC a bit... but I was just about to pull a new NSX today.... I was in third pulling him steadily (he started off in front of me from a 2nd gear roll), and I shifted at about 7k quikly into 4th and it was like I hit a brick wall. The shifter stopped dead in it's tracks and I was in the right gate. I kept the clutch down and qucikly hit 4th again, and still nothing. It didn't grind, it just wouldn't go. Once the RPMs came down and I reclutched, I was able to slip it into 4th gear, but by then (about 2 sec) I had already lost my steam and I wasn't pulling the NSX anymore. I was so pissed. Does this sound like the pill, or restrictor you guys are talking about?

I've done that exact same thing on many occasions. I think it's more due to the fact that you get all caught up in the moment, your adrenaline pumps, and you shift and clutch at the same time.

I did that once too with a couple of crotch rockets..
Took off from the light, and when I went to third I hit the wall.

Then I looked down and noticed the AIR was on..(wife had it on)

Yelled at her for causing me to almost get rear ended by a Katana and moped the whole way home..

Just kidding. But seriously, you have to be precise in your shifts or you will get stuck...Take deap breaths and just say NO to adrenaline!!

And the air being on totally changes the shift points obviously..

Yeah, I know ... it's ...

but I gotta ask: which flavor Evo are you looking to get? (regular, RS, MR)

I've got the RS model and I get a 2-3 grind if I shift too quickly. It's very annoying.
