MIVEC is an acronym for 'Mitsubishi InnovativeValve timing and lift Electronic Control system'. It alters the profile of the cams to suit your driving demands. Thereby under low rev conditions the management system uses the smaller cams. The main feature however is if you open the throttle it can give the valves a longer duration and longer stroke providing maximum and efficient power and torque at all engine speeds.
There is a white paper describing MIVEC in detail on this forum somewhere, but I'm too tired to look for it. Basically, it's Mitsubishi's version of VTEC. Except it kicks in much lower than VTEC (3500 RPMS for RA, in the 6000's for Hondas), and it only works on the intake stage on Mitsu, where Hondas work on the intake and exhaust.

It changes cam profiles at certain rpm's to generate more horsepower.

That's the summed up version, I think you can find a 10 page one somewhere.

http://www.mitsubishi-motors.com/cor...f/2003/15E.pdf I found the information it's actually in a 124 page PDF file

On page 59 you will find the information you will need, it gets right into the very complex stuff too.
